Anyone have info on this 996

I remember seeing the build for this car. I think it was here on Rennlist, but I don’t remember who or when. I agree with TexSquirrel’s suggestion to look for a 996 Turbo. That would be an AWESOME intro to Porsche ownership.

Well, I'm far from an expert on modded 996s, but here's a comment or two.
The headlamp conversion is the true 997 fenders, bumper and lamps. This seems like a pretty big deal, including paint to match, or entire car paint job. It appears the rear bumper is also a true C4S/turbo item with the vents(non-functional in this case) where they belong. The light bases, panel joints, and gaps seem to be pretty good in the pictures, hard to say if that holds true in person.
If the interior has the same quality attention to detail, and the car runs and drives and stops right, I could see dropping $30k coin if it tuned my piano. I do like the color, and the trim bits. But - there's a lot of folks like silver and black which I can't stand.
The problem with a GT clone, or an M3 clone, or other hopped up clones is if you are out on the road, and someone chooses to throw down, you are gonna hafta beg off, and swallow the big black crow.

I agree. I think the attention to detail on the outside is impressive. You’d think with all that time and money spent, they would’ve done something to the engine to make it perform as well as it looks. If it were less money, I could bite and build a proper engine. The 30k like others said would likely be better spent on a true turbo car.
Thanks!

Happy to help a small contribution. There is a 'however' involved. When you step up to the turbo, and specifically a low-budget turbo around $30k-ish, you might be buying into another $10-15k in upkeep, maint, and extras. I'm an an unrefined bottom feeding buyer, and I would not go into the turbo market on the cheap. I might(and did) pay $16k for an early 99 C2, but if I were to fishing in turbo waters, my budget would be closer to $50k.
