Default I did a bad thing...

I have been wanting an 911 for so many years (basically since I was a kid). And with life getting in the way of my dream car as so many things do. The stars have finally aligned and has allowed me to get one. But not without some roadblocks in my way.
With loan money in hand I started looking a few weeks ago. Found 6 cars that would fit the bill. (ie budget mainly) Now 1-4 cars are sold pretty much hours before I contact the dealerships, number has been on the market 142 days and will not come down a penny. Car number 6 was at an Autonation in Cali and after shipping to Florida price jumped 2000.00 for the shipping. so now that one is out.
Now My very understanding wife is stressed out for Me last Tuesday night she had a dream that after so many cars have slipped away that I would settle for anything including that car in her nightmare that the inside seats and dash was covered in "shrimp and salsa" and clear coated and my response was " its not that bad"

The hunt continues I found one off of flatsixes site that price and just been lowered and is still available. I make a phone calls, check the car fax, see the PCA sticker and hope for the best.

So We get up at 4:30 am drive to the airport catch a plane to Chicago with is a balmy 20 degrees at 9am, uber to the dealer, and hope I haven't wasted money on a car I didn't get a PPI, driven or even seen in person. Then drive 1085mi back to Jacksonville Fl. All while trying to avoid the storm that heading to Tenn Sat nite . I'm due in Nashville at 7pm and the freezing rain is due to start at 6pm. We made it to pleasant view TN. just before the freezing rain started. Woke up to a to Porsche under half inch of ice. that was the worst of the weather for the whole trip. Missed all the storms.

We get to the dealer and the car looks great, no rock chips, very little wear inside on the seats every thing seems to work. Brand new pilot super sports I'm starting to feel like my dream car will happen.

The dealer tells me of the one problem that he knows of it cant manually lock and unlock the doors and the key fob doesn't work (transmitter part). I cant see the light when I push the button so it may just be a battery issue maybe an easy fix.
We leave there and head to the NTB in lenox IL to change the oil and wipers and check what I can for our 1000mi journey.
Clean bill of heath nothing loose no shiny metal in oil or filter.

Now for the bad parts I have found is that I have to force it into 6th gear so I'm guessing it needs an adjustment or the cables are worn and need to be replaced
that cover under the spoiler is torn and the 12v charging port doesn't work
And it has Fabspeed muffler deletes on it (omg ungodly loud)

So her she is My new Porsche!!!!!!!

more pics to follow.

P.S. Its an early 1999 build date 02/98...

Bad thing, NO! Good thing!

btw, that's not much wrong with your car, consider yourself lucky, mine was pretty rough when I got it.

Enjoy the driving!

Wow! Looks nice, hope bit handled well in the ice storm - must have been a little scary. The key thing can be a real pita - I hope it works out simply for you. Do a search, there are lots of good tips on how to fix (the touch solder trick) and/or how to get less expensive replacements. Here's hoping you don't have to go the whole $450 -$600 route (depending who you talk to...) Good luck!

Congratulations! As dporto said, the keyless entry function is surprisingly expensive to fix in many cases. There are aftermarket solutions that are very reasonable compared to what Porsche charges. Address any of the other issues first.

We lucked out and stopped at the hotel 30 mins before the freezing ran started woke up to a frozen car but that's it slight misting all the way done but the trip went smooth other than exhaust so loud we wore earplugs all the way down.

Thank you.
Soon as I have time I will be pulling the door apart and seeing what the hang up is.

If it won't lock manually, check the small metal rod that attaches the back of the door handle to the lock mechanism. It will line up into a plastic slot on the mechanism and there is a small black plastic sleeve that slips over the rod to hold it in place. If that sleeve has slipped off it may have caused the rod to slip out of the slot. You need to pull the door card to get to it, but it's not difficult to do.

Congratulations on your first 911 ! You can now proudly say been there done that.. Don't worry about the key fob. Statistically in the real world most car thieves can't drive a stick anyway.. (i know it's the opposite in the movies.. :-)

It's not the door. The problem is likely with the circuit board in the key fob.

Oh, that's a different issue. The door opens and closes okay, but the key won't lock or unlock it? Can you lock it with the dashboard switch?

Interesting... I've watched a ton of videos online and it doesn't seem very loud and was thinking about maybe going this route but haven't seen it in person to experience it. Is it really that loud ?
