Default What is this rubber part?

Did a lot on the car yesterday. When I was finishing up I saw this on the floor. I replaced the motor motor mounts and tranny mount, changed the oil and filter, replaced the serpentine belt and air filter. I think it fell out when I pulled the air box but I’m not sure.

What appears to be a rubber grommet is actually a rubber fastener commonly found in the frunk area. The part that is missing is the metal nut. These tend to deteriorate over time and metal nut falls out. These fasteners hold the plastic panels around the battery area as well as radio amp and CD changer. These same type of fasteners also hold components like the air box in the engine bay. That's what it could be.

Yep. Rubber grommet for the airbox. Pull the box and you’ll see there’s two in the body of the car just behind the rear bumper.

The superseded 997 part has rubber stoppers to prevent it from coming out with the airbox

Yup, air box grommet, keeps falling out whenever the air box is removed and landing somewhere between body and engine, finally silicone the grommets on both cars and no more problems

Thanks all. I remember seeing those two prongs sticking out of the bottom of the air box. I should have realized what that rubber things was for. I'll add those and some new wire clips to my next Pelican order. It was pretty cold and I broke one of the wire clips on the back of the air box.

That may be one of the rubber nuts (rubber with a metal nut inside) that attaches the SAI pump overtop the left engine mount. It presses into a hole in the body structure. Similar rubber nuts are used elsewhere in the car including in the front trunk. I agree with Dporto, the airbox grommets are blue rubber.
