Low cost 99 996 for sale in Chicago area
No affiliation, I just came across the ad. Clean CarFax, I wonder what’s wrong with it?

I know - I thought about the logistics of buying a 3rd car just to stop driving my 996 because part of me thinks it’s a shame to daily such a nice car. Then the other part of me says that I deserve it.
On the one hand, I’ve addd 12,000 miles in 2 years for a cost of about $121/mo (maintenance and repairs) by daily driving it, and it’s now at 60,000 miles, hardly low-miles.
On the other hand, I can drive it for another 5 years and still be under 100,000 miles, which I think is the half life of my particular car, since it was so well stored and maintained in the past. It’s not like any of the older air-cooled cars aren’t accumulating 150,000-200,000 miles, which is where the 996s will be in 5-10 years.

I told my boss back in 2013 to buy a 930 he was looking at asking $44k, sold for $41k. Same car today > $100k.
Honestly though, I think we are dreaming if we thing our 996s are going to go up like any of the cars mentioned so far. What I see happening is the 996 market is going to start to stratify. The silver/black/gray/white cars with low options are going to stick to generic prices. The 4S, Targa, bright colors, high options, and unique are going to go up moderately. I will opine that in 10 years, a base model silver/blk 996 will still be < $25k with 130k miles or so.

Wow, just looked at the ad and it looks identical to mine, even the mileage is very similar. No way I would give mine away that cheap, but there's always someone out there looking to simply unload a car.

Those tail pipes are hanging awfully low... -$400.00... $12,500 There's got to be at least a few more of those! I'd bet the coolant reservoir is yellow/brown and ready to burst it's seams...$12k even...When was the water pump changed last? Noises? There's got to be some kind of engine tick that's worth a few bucks... I'm thinking this is a $11.5k car

Well, I dont have the crystal ball of course... but the thing is... I dont thing the 996 is going to be "collectible" (further than those specials GT and Turbo), but I can bet that in some point the "basic" carreras are going to be much more expensive than they are today. All 911's have suffered depreciation until they get a point, where the appreciation start to increase. We are seeing it already with the 996.1, whith an increasing interest on media and it will reflect on the market as much as they get older.

A slight seasonal climb in summer, then flat.

I'm not seeing it. Neither is Hagerty.

You can see already a change on the trend over the press, and a lot of articles about the 996 have been written recently, as the attention turns over the last "affordable" 911.
As I mentioned, I dont think they are being collectibles or reach values like a 993 never, but I also think that cars that are now selling on 20K will be in those 5-10 years be selling for almost the double of that price. Probably, they will never go further than that value, but I think that the actual values, are going to have a high proportional increase.
