Default Update: Install Child seat with LATCH in the rear seat of 996

Hi all,
Good news for me, finally I was able to install a child seat with LATCH in my MY02 996C4s' rear seat. I would like to thank people who answered my question in other threads. Here is the update of my child seat installation. I have been taking my 9 months old baby around with my toy these 2 weekends. I can still seat int he front passenger seat with confert. I am 6'0" tall. Following is a list of thing that I you may need to have it work:

1. A child seat with LATCH support: I use Britex Roundabout ($200) which is much cheaper than Porsche's child seat. According to Porsche's website, new Porsche Junior Seat which costs about $640 will work in the rear of a 996.

2. A big tower: I use it to protect my leather seat in the rear.

3. A box cutter: I use it to cut the pre-cut carpet in on the rear deck which has a LATCH in. Detail of finding the LATCH is in user menual.

4. A baby range from 20 to 40 pounds: Well if do not have one, you do not need to install the seat.

Following are the photos:

Thats cool. My son is 4 years old and about 35-40 pnds, I think I can get away with just a booster seat.

By the way, is that Lapis Blue exterior with Black leather interior ? Looks nice, like to see more pics

Saweet interior ! I knew that wasnt quite as dark as I thought Is midnight blue one of those special options for interior? I was looking at standard grey leather for my lapis blue ext, but that midnight blue rocks.

I've never seen a midnight blue interior in person, so if you could post more interior I would greatly appreciate

Nice taste in colors, take care,
Dek.

Mav, I have a roundabout in mine, too. I actually just removed the leather bottom of the seat (it pulls right off), and put the car seat right onto the carpet. I got a tighter fit that way and no need for the towel. I don't see any wear on the upper back part of the seat.

Thanks for posting the pictures, Mav! I'm going to buy a Roundabout now. My old Graco doesn't fit well as it's too wide. Is the Roundabout secure enough with just the shoulder/lap belt? I'd rather not cut my car up unless I have to.

Yes, I have tried it without LATCH. I just want 200% safe for my baby. I bought my roundabout at Baby R US, in case of not fit I can still return it. Since it fit, I will keep it.

We're going to Goores in Sacto next week to look at the Marathon as well as the Roundabout. They are very knowledgeable about Porsche and car seats that fit our vehicles.

FYI - The 996 does NOT support LATCH. What it does support is a rear tether anchor point. LATCH replaces using the seat belt which is not the case in the 996.

With the exception of the Cayenne which does support LATCH. I actually bought the Porsche child booster seat that has the LATCH option and installed it in my wife's Lexus RX-330.
