Ok, so does anyone know when Porsche changed the IMSB in their engines? My car had the engine replaced by Porsche in 2007 (did not find that out until after I bought the car) so I am trying to figure out when they started using a different bearing set-up. Porsche Saint Louis (Indigo Group) says I should replace it and a local indie shop told me that my car has the upgraded bearing since the engine was done in '07. TIA.

I think they went to the Large non-retrofitable bearing in '05. It should be noted that there is no "solid" cutoff date when they stopped using the smaller single row bearing and started using the larger bearing. The only way to tell definitively which bearing you have is to remove the transmission and look at the IMSB Flange. The large bearing has a much larger nut on the outside of the case. If you do a web search you can see the difference. Good Luck

My factory replacement engine was installed in 05 and it has the big bearing. It would be wise for you to get in there and remove the grease seal ASAP.

This video (and the entire series) is an amazing reference.

If the time code doesn't work in the link - start at 15:42, though, the whole video is worth watching.
