996 3.4L IPD Plenum
I am a first time Porsche owner though I have owned many other performance oriented cars. I recently acquired a 2000 996 3.4L with a little over 100k miles. My principal reason for buying the car was being able to "play" with my Porsche nut brother. I was an uneducated, impulsive buyer, and while nice, my "new" Porsche has needed a fair amount of help just to get things correct. I have learned a tremendous amount by lurking around here and reading much more educated perspectives. Thank you to all of you for sharing your knowledge.
Among a long list of things to breathe new life into my car, I recently installed an IPD Plenum. In the interest of full disclosure, my mechanic also installed a new MAF (just because) and a BMC air filter at the same time. I have now put a thousand miles on the vehicle driving from Wyoming to California with the new plenum installed.
I have no dyno tests to refer to, before or after installation. But I am a BIG fan. The change in performance of the car is very clearly evident. Where I previously never really felt the car came to life before 4 thousand RPM, I have noticed that there is a very pronounced improvement in torque between 3 and 4 thousand RPM. In addition, there is a subtle but sophisticated improvement in the tone of the "howl." I feel that the cost of the plenum, while significant at c.$800, has been money very well spent.

Well, at some point in time we are all first posters...so welcome to this crazy outfit. Share some of your experiences with your car and always a good idea for a first poster is to post up some pictures of your car. We love pictures! Coming from Wyoming and California areas, I'm sure you have some good backdrops. Tell us some of the other things you have done to your car. We love mods too!

1) Engine ECU tune...Clearly feel the difference, mainly linear and quick throttle response
2) IPD 3.4 Plenum...Could not feel the difference, but no negative impact (my exhaust is fairly loud, so I would not be able to hear much intake noise)
3) Fabspeed smooth intake hose and resonator cap, added a Pipercross foam air filter...Some intake noise can now be heard. No clear performance improvement. Side effect: CEL is now on.
3) Back to the shop, new MAF and throttle body cleaned...CEL still on
4) Changed to a BMC air filter...CEL is now off
As stated earlier, you must post pictures to get this process started!

Let's see, user 63031, member since May, 55 posts and not yet a member.
There are some strong opinions for and against the IP Plenum no doubt but some of the fun in owning these cars is the
desire to make them your own and if that is in installing an IPD Plenum and feeling that it provided a tangible benefit to him
then why not?
For the sake of full disclosure, I installed one when they were still quite new on the marketplace and I would agree with him that
it "felt" different (read that as better) than prior to the installation.
Perhaps with various mods that free up intake and exhaust flow, there is a measurable improvement, not much maybe but it can change the
feel at different rpm ranges.
I'm certainly no expert and others on this site have done amazing work on their cars and have better founded opinions than me, but don't burst people's bubbles
for nothing.

I had a friend who bought a bigger throttle body for his car. While he was backing out of the garage after we installed it, he was so convinced the car was already faster! I am not exaggerating either!!! lol

Again, I merely called it what I saw it as, as it was his first post. Jump high and low, but it looked like a blatant ad. Seems he wasn't just running an ad, so i'll gladly eat my words. Though I didn't know you had to 'be a paying member' in order to be allowed to speak your mind.
