Plenum by IPD
Quick Question:
Are the Plenum really worth the dollar? As you all know, they are so many BS power gains listed with Performance Products, I just wanted to know if anyone can confirm the hype? My son forward me some info on a deal with Design 911UK, just wanted to see if it is worth dropping $1200 for it? Thank you in advance

Quick answer: not worth the $1200 dollars, unless you like to burn money lighting your BBQ! Looks purdy though....aw shucks...if you want one get one. Doubt you will gain much of anything.

So very odd. I answered the question and my reply is gone. The reply was "No". They are not worth the money. I had one (ipd competition with GT3 throttle body), they sound nice, but they don't add power. There are many better ways to spend that money and get more benefits.

Starting with 296-320 crank hp, any gains from modifications won't really be felt. I am sure some of these mods free up some HP but for the price, it's just not worth it.
These engines just aren't that advanced. A complicated design to achieve essentially the same results as an I6 or V6.

Competition plenum with larger throttle body would be noticeable but the basic ipd plenum did nothing in mine. I noticed far more with k&n intake tbh.

my understanding is that there are basically no bolt-ons that add any power. All of the intake mods just add noise (and possibly ruin MAFs), and usually decrease HP. Many of the exhaust mods add noise, and reduce weight, but only increase top-end hp will decreasing torque.
Best bang-for-your-buck bolt-on is muffler delete. Not because of the added hp (mostly it reduces down-low torque), but because for $75 on ebay (or a few hundred if you want the nicer Fabspeed ones) you can drop 50 lbs out of the back of the car.

Further context, no bolt on mod to a NASP car is ever going to be impactful enough for you to feel the difference. - Placebo
All/any gains are marginal, however adding a few at once MAY get you 10% which in some instances would be noticeable.
Jake Raby believes that the IPD kit makes a difference and adds BHP, however unless you are increasing displacement recommends only the standard 74mm version, there was a recent thread on this, do a search.
200 Cell cats appear to be one of the better bolt on's that work, mufflers drop weight but the general opinion is that there is no other gain. - Dropping weight increases performance but again you need to be dropping in excess of 80Kg's to notice anything.
Induction wise, standard airbox with BMC panel filter and resonator delete is widely considered the best upgrade. - I have gone form a K&N CAI back to this and can notice no difference either way.
I am about to undergo a full rebuild, increased displacement and as part of this I will be adding an IPD and 997 GT3 throttle body, understanding the gain will be marginal.

Unless you've done some major internal modifications along the lines of increased bore & stroke plus head modifications . None of these bolt on intake or exhaust upgrades will have a significant impact on a motor producing 100 bhp/litre .
now if you've done all this interior work , the engine needs and can handle more flow , at that point plenums, intakes , exhaust ,, injectors etc makes sense .
but on a stock motor , you're wasting your time and money . Louder ain't faster
