Default Need Big Oval Tips!

I just signed to buy another 996, they stay in your blood I guess. Car is great, red/black supple leather 2001 with less than 8000 miles, but I think I will need to buy the Big Oval Tips.

I know Gert at Carnewal has them but at ~$600.00. Does anyone know where there might be a better deal on these? My other Porsche cars had them and they look so good I think I will need to install them.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Brick, I've been sniffing around looking for some chrome tips or something nicer than the brushed stainless original equipment tips. The prices are way up there... Tell me how it costs that much to make tips? I removed the tips from my car and sent them to be polished (like a mirror). They won't be any bigger but they will look nicer....

Let me ask this question:

If someone made replica chrome tips that looked exactly like the Tequipment Big Ovals at half the price, would you guys buy them?

I have friends in the auto parts business with ties to stainless steel and chroming factories in Asia. I'm looking into the 'real' cost of manufacturing these Tequipment tips. It's amazing how Porsche can charge $600-$800 for these parts and we Porsche owners continue to buy them. Just curious if fellow owners would be willing pay less for replicas. Afterall, these tips are only cosmetic items.

If anyone is interested, I'm selling my stainless steel exhaust pipes, they are the dual-tube tailpipes (four-pipe look) in chrome-plated stainless steel with polished finish, option X54 and also the sports exhaust system, option XLF.

Brick,

Try Sunset Imports in Oregon. I've shopped around and I think they have the lowest prices around. Standard disclaimer, No affiliation with Sunset, just a satisfied customer.

I am answering my own question I guess but I thought it worth posting. I found the tips for $630 delivered from:

www.jasmine-motorsport.co.uk (How to make this a link, I do not know)

They said it was a Porsche tip. I have not heard of them so I ask anyone to comment if they have a history of service.

Hi Brick,

jasmine are a well known supplier of Porsche parts over here, so no worries there, although i believe most of their stuff is second hand. FWIW i have a set of techequipment oval tips available as i have fitted a Manthey exhaust and these are surplus to requirements. I also have a set of GT3 headers and cats with lambda probes and gearbox mounting brackets (NEW!!) without muffler boxes AND Muffler bypass tips(BRAND NEW!!) if anyone is interested. Shipping should not be a problem. I can supply pics if needed. I am not in the trade, just need to make some room in the garage!

Regards,

Steve
