Default Not all doom & gloom

Seems like there’s a lotta mechanical failure type threads going around at the moment. So to lighten things up a bit here’s a post bath pic of mine all shiny & happy 😃

Just finished breaking this one in and dynoing it for a local dealer that installed an RND engine into it. No more doom and gloom for it, just resurrection!

Thanks for starting this thread.
I will be honest, since that crankshaft failure thread, I have stopped checking in on this 996 forum.
It was making me sick to think I waited until being in my mid 50s to buy a Porsche, then read everyday that it is a ticking time bomb.
$^&#×/ it!
I love my car, I was just down to Lowe's picking up something today.
I snapped this picture on the way back walking to my car.

Great attitude!!!
I tell people that are fearful of buying high performance German sports cars like the BMW M3, MB AMG, or Porsches... don't let the fear of failures that circulate the internet forums stop you from buying a little fun in life. Every car has things that must be addressed... it's seems like the 996 is the curse of the RL 911 forums because of the IMS problem. But the fact is... there are options out there! Can you say LN engineering IMS solution? When you buy these cars, plan on spending at least $5,000 to get them to a state where you can drive them with a peace of mind. I personally think these are beautiful powerful cars that are meant to be driven hard! Just my thoughts on the subject!

Already done

I feel like I was forced into changing IMS due to propaganda, my original bearing was perfect, when pulled at 60k miles.
But what ever it is done.
I started doing oil analysis and everything looks okie dokie.

When I first became interested in the Porsche 996 and Boxster (because of the low purchase costs), I quickly learned it was partly due to the IMS problem. I thought it was internet propaganda too. How could Porsche be so wrong on a vital part like a shaft bearing? I went to Porsche and they unofficially admitted there was a problem with these bearings, but didn't really offer IMS replacement service at the time. They would only replace the motor if it experienced catastrophic failure. I later visited a independent shop that serviced German sports cars. While standing in the shop, I noticed piles of what appeared to be intermediate shafts with bearing wear on the end. I took a picture. (I'll try to upload it later.) I asked the owner about those shafts. He said they were just a small sample they kept from cars that died from IMS failure. He went on to explain they were both from Boxster 986 and 996 cars. I finally witness evidence right in front of my face!
Ok, so my point is you made the right choice by making the preventive move instead of the reactive move. Reactive is always more costly from my understanding of the problem. Don't ever think you were conned into making the swap. How many miles on the car since the retrofit? I know a lot of people change the RMS and IMS out with a clutch service. Just curious, if you keep the car for the long haul are you going to put another bearing in it?
