C4S Exhaust tip adjustment
Hi everyone,
The right exhaust tip on my C4S is defenately lower than the left side.
Or the opposite...
anyway to make a long story short I replaced the tranny and engine mount and the tips are still
misaligned on the "Z" axis.
Do you think I can loose the part No22 in the diagram and adjust the tips height or angle?
I just dont understand how to correct about half an inch in height difference.
Previous owner seems to have used some clamps welded on the exhaust system to hold the tips but theses brakets are now broken but the tips pipe are rock solid...
I can provide pictures if its not clear enough.
Thanks!

I spent last weekend doing the same after motor mount replacement resulted in them being off. The first thing to try is to loosen thup 13mm bolt on the bottom of the exhaust tip as that will provide a good bit of adjustment there. If the exhaust pipe itself is askew, then yes, loosening the exhaust clamp you referenced will allow adjustment of the pipe itself. Just be careful that upper clamp bolt is likely rusty and virtually welded on after 15yr, I wound up replacing all hardware in this area for that reason.

22 is the right part to loosen for vertical adjustment. I found the tip’s bottom bolt more useful for adjusting the amount of tip exposure past the bumper. As jllphan indicates it will probably be rustwelded together. Search around, aftermarket clamps are available (fabspeed?) also the stock clamp is not too expensive. At least get a new bolt before you curse the old one out of there.

The clamp #22 holds a joint that resembles a ball and socket, allowing for multiple axis adjustments. The bolt through the bottom of the tip (on the 996.2) allows for minor fore and aft movement of the outside of the exhaust tip. #22 are relatively inexpensive in the aftermarket.

One last question!
just wondering if you guys have the factory position of the PSE tail pipes on a C4S. I would like to know the gap between the bumper arch and the tail pipe.
Ive seen technical drawing of this mesurements for a 997 but cant find anything for the 996!
I know I can pretty much place them as I want but Im on the process of making the car 100% original so I guess its one of the small step.
thanks!
