Default Funny Noise??

For a few months now I have noticed a moderate grinding, rubbing wierd noise coming from just underneath the gear shift housing. I don't hear it when I am not accelerating but, as soon as I do the noise appears and stays until I deccelerate. Also, when the noise appears if I push the gear shift further in the direction of the gear it's it i.e., in 3rd gear I push the shifter forward the noise goes away.

I originally thought the noise was part of the console housing surrounding the transmission bit, I now think it has something to do with the transmission. The car runs fine it's just this noise that is driving me crazy. Any ideas??????

your bushings may be bad in your shifter
