03 cabrio top on a 1999
Greetings all,new poster here.I have a wrecked 2003 cabriolet with glass rear window.To the collective brain trust....will it swap with my 1999?

I could be made to fit but you would have to replace many other parts in the boot area. Go through the parts program and start comparing the part nuymbers between a '98-01 and a '02+ and you will see.

I considered doing this a long time ago to my 99,' to eliminate the terrible plastic rear window. I've tried searches, but haven't found a single thread about anyone completing the swap. I'm pretty sure that the attachment points for the bows and hydraulic cylinders are identical. I've also read somewhere that the rear area where the top folds into is deeper on the newer 996's to accommodate the additional thickness of the top when it's in the retracted position. If true, and I'm not certain that it us, this probably has something to do with the redesigned bow structure of the newer tops to accommodate the rear glass window. If you go for it, please share the details of the process.

The top folds very differently because the window is glass. On the 99 the plastic window actually folds. I used to put a thin felt pad on the window on my 2001 to protect it when I kept the top down for long periods. i.e putting the hard top on.
