Default New to me 996 taken immediately to the Tail of the Dragon.

I picked up a new-to-me 01 996 this past week in Philadelphia, drove it over to Pittsburgh to pick up my dad, then drove south to my home in Orlando via the scenic route. We spent a full day driving in the Smokey Mountains and did a few passes on the Tail of the Dragon. It was my first time at the Dragon on 4 wheels as I usually ride my sportbikes on it at least once per year. The car's handling and grip far exceeded my expectations and I was able to lay down a few respectable runs. I was very impressed with the car's abilities although my heel-toe action needs to improve. Total trip was over 2,000 miles in 4 days. I'm headed back to the mountains in October with the Fiance if anyone is interested in a little meet up.

Awesome car, story, and trip!

Question: how did you manage a 2,000 mile journey without two or three catastrophic engine failures? Were most of the miles on a flatbed? (Inside Rennlist jokes)

That sir, is how you buy a 911. - congrats! Let me know the next time you head that way, I’d love an excuse to do the same...

Too funny!!! I just picked up my 03' Seal Grey 996TT this weekend from Michigan and hit the Dragons Tail with it on Sunday. Total trip for me was 1600 miles. Looks as though you and your old man did the trip together. Once again, that's also what I did. Absolute glorious way to begin the journey of Turbo ownership. I was blown away by how well the car handled on such a tight twisty road. I had been there previously on the bike but never in a car. Can't wait to go back!

LOL! I have to admit that I was a little worried about jumping into a car I've never seen before and driving it that far. But the shop that did the PPI said the car was rock solid and ready to drive so I took a confident leap of faith.

I've been lurking and reading enough in here and other places to expect impending doom but she's earned my trust. For now. ;-)

This is one of those times when it really sucks that RL doesn't have a "like" button ...
