C2 rear wheel hub screeching/scraping sound - help
Dear all, I wonder if anyone can help with this.
I have recently 'repaired' what I thought was the scraping sound coming from my rear wheel hubs. I did this by replacing the hand/park brake support on either side of the car within the hand-brake mechanism. I also made a video of this if it helps anyone understand this matter any better:
PS this is the problem I have seen on here when people can solve the intermittent squeaking from the rear by lifting the handbrake slightly while driving.
Anyway, having done all of this work, I went on a long drive only to hear a similar sound coming from the rear of the car towards the end of the trip, an intermittent squeak.
When I looked under the car again, after some careful searching I saw that there was a fresh section of scraped metal on the 'perforated' speed sensor ring that circles the rear drive shaft where it enters the wheel hub.
My question is what can be causing this scraping. My car is a 100K miles, could it be the wheel bearing causing this issue? I believe they are original bearings.Or is there a universal joint designed into that part of the driveshaft that can go bad?
Any constructive help would be very much appreciated.
Regards
Joël

Usually it's the brake dust shields are bent and scraping the rotor. Just bend them back away with a flat head screwdriver or similar and it see if that helps.

Why not jack up that side of the car, spin the wheel by hand and listen closely? That might reveal where the sound is coming from. Yes, there are inner and outer CV joints on the driveshaft.
