Back to 911 ownership!
So after 15+ years of air cooled 911 ownership and then a couple with a 986 I finally found the new 911 I had been searching for. Fellow Rennlist member had this listed down in Texas for sale and I struck a deal with him. He was even nice enough to deliver it half way across the country to me. Lots of little things to sort out on it still, but the major stuff of clutch and IMS are already done. I haven’t really driven it much yet as I was waiting for the tirerack.com to sort out some mistakes on the new wheels and tires. I have been on the hunt for a GR or SY aero car with sport seats, LSD and 030. The aero kit on this car is not original, but it is as close as I could come to checking all the boxes.

The car was in Texas and it was delivered to me up in the Milwaukee area. Owner was going up to the EAA fly in. So sorry not down in Texas anymore.

Awesome - we have a similar background on Porsche experience. My first was an 88 Targa, then an ‘00 Boxster S, and now a ‘99 996.
What air cooled car did you have?
I’ve had to re-learn how to drive these cars because I was always taught to brake in a straight line. But the 996 loves trailbraking (on the track).

I had a 71 Targa outlaw that I restored from just a bare shell and a 77 with a Carrera 3.2 in it. Both were great cars, but I really wanted something with more modern amenities. You know like AC, wipers that clear the windshield, headlights that illuminate the road and a radio that sounds OK. My Boxster is a wonderful car, but I live in the midwest where the weather is not always agreeable and my top down days are few and far between. Also I have a 5 year old and the back seat is nice once in a while to cart her around in. As for driving I actually prefer the Boxster to the 911. It feels lighter and more nimble, but is down a little on power. This 996 definitely feels more stable than my 71/77 for sure. Brakes are a heck of a lot better too. I need to get some solid hours behind the wheel before I pass total judgements.
