yup, I tried redline 5w50. Oil pressure was much higher to the point that it made me nervous. It was 2.5 bars when hot and at idle. Back to using 5W40.
It really drives nice and never smokes.

I see what you are saying. I was looking at the pipes and not the plate that mounts to the head.

I’m no expert, but doesn’t sound right for sure. Your oil consumption doesn’t help me thing good things. My 100k 996 doesn’t consume any measurable amount, Does it smoke on Start up? I’d guess it’s likely cylinder noise in its early stages. Probably a slow demise given you’ve kept an eye on the oil level. There are many worse on the internet but this sounds very similar and If the narrator is right...

I'm a bit confuse about this video, the title says M96 but the guy in the video says it's a 997 which shouldn't it be an M97?

My car has been making this knock for 24k miles now. I use Ceratec and figure at some point I will need a rebuild.

Has the noise gotten worse over time? Have you scoped it? Any idea how much longer you can run it? And do you track the car?

Also, I’ve never heard of Ceratec. Do other folks use it on Porsche engines?

Noise hasn't gotten worse over time. I never scoped it. Since it hasn't changed much over 20k miles, hard to say how long it will last. I do not track car. I drive it about 50 miles a day 3 times a week, mostly highway miles.
Some people think Ceratec may extend the time before scoring takes over completely. It's hard to imagine that RL, Motul and any other quality synthetic oil doesn't do enough to protect the engine without introducing oil additives like Ceratec. I may have just fell for the Ceratec marketing. But maybe it is working for me.

I got tired of the knocking and bought a rebuilt 3.6. Oil consumption got a little worse but it was also killing my cats. I was at 95k and 3644 hours on the original motor. Knocking since 60k. I guess I am glad I never spend money on replacing the IMSB since the scoring was going to be the problem for me.

Did you practice the warm up procedure before you rev to high RPM during the ownership of your car?
