Default Original cabin filter?

Just replaced the cabin filter, weighs about three pounds! I've never seen one this bad!

Yeah, I didn't take a pic but when I first got mine the cabin filter looked very similar. It was one of the white ones( non-carbon whatever gray ones), however, it looked gray! It looked kinda like a furnace filter used since 2005! After I replaced it the funky smell that came in when I ran the fan went away! Easy and very satisfying corrective action.

Ha! Same here...I just replaced mine because I was getting some "stale" smell as well. I hadn't changed mine in the almost 4 years I've had the car - who knows how long it had been in there before that. Stale smell gone

When I went to change mine, I made the mistake of buying one of the lower cost paper filters. Damn thing did not fit correctly and did not have the plastic end caps. Had to jam it into the filter holder and it just bent in several places. Only buy the better quality activated charcoal cabin filters with the plastic end caps.

I bought two Mann cabin filters, not charcoal, from rockauto. My normal procedure is to replace them every other oil change. These were correct and had the plastic.

I got the Mann filter as well (from Rockauto $26...)... I didn't buy an extra though - I've got enough new parts lying around that haven't been installed yet

Whew! I'm glad to hear that I am not the only one with new parts laying around waiting to be installed. I was beginning to think I was alone with this personal defect!

I bought one made in China. Probably inhaling asbestos every time I drive.

Good thing you bought it before the tariffs drove the price up!

Yes, but if all our 996's simultaneously combust in some kind of freak accident, you'll be last man standing . Then you can come on RL and gloat about it (you shouldn't expect responses to that post however).

I used the Mann carbon filter. It's only marginally more expensive than the plain filter. I'm always amazed at how fresh the air is coming out of the 996 HVAC. I think the previous owner was pretty dilligent in replacing it, my old one wasn't too dirty.

It's a very satisfying/rewarding maintenance item for $30 and 5 minutes time.
