Default RMS Repair cost. Quote from dealer $1200!

Some of you may have read my other post regarding the "potential RMS failure". So, I won't elaborate here. I asked for a quote before I bring the car in. The repair cost quoted at $1200. They have offered to kick in $350 to offset the cost which leaves me w/$850. I have seen here the repair cost range from $640 to $850. It appears to me they have over inflated the estimate to make up for their $350 donation. I also asked for a quote to perform a basic PSE install (no vacuum/switches) which came in at $330.

It has been my experience that you end up paying very close to the quote. I don't think they would do the job then bill me $500 if the quote was for $1200.

Am I being overly sensitive or is this a fair price for a C4?

Something around 500-550€ was mine 2-3 weeks ago. $1200 is definately overinflated.

I don't know about the RMS, but the PSE is pretty high. I paid 1 hour labor ($80) to have my PSE installed without electronics.

I had the RMS on my '02 cab repaired under warranty, but the dealer (Storms Motors, Southampton, N.Y.) said it would have cost $800 if not covered.

Default Mim - Which dealer quoted RMS?

Which dealer in Michigan gave you the quote? I'm also in Michigan and have done business with both Cook and Lavery. Lavery had no Porsche tech for 6-8 weeks because he had a hip replacement. Cook recently replaced their Porsche Service Mgr. as well.

At the current US/Sterling inflation rate I would say that's about right....maybe slightly expensive.
Normally its a full day. 8 hours. I dunno what an hour is in the US but it's about £80
here in the UK (guessing here). = £640.

Saddly, you should also rememebr to cost in the cost of a new clutch too. Labour for clutch replacement is almost exactly the same. Mabe less an hours that's all. So if your clutch goes, think $1100 again!

Best of luck with it
