Both Key FOBs Have a Problem
Hey Porsche Aficionados -
Trying to fix the key FOB for a 1999 996 (they never worked since the car was recently bought). Both keys lock/unlock and start the car just fine. However, when the button is pressed on the key head - nothing happens. No red light on the head of the key and the remote locking/unlocking does not work either. I put a good new battery in both keys and still nothing. I was expecting at least the red light to illuminate when I put the new battery in. It would be nice to have this feature working again.
Thoughts?

No expert here, but have read numerous places that the circuit boards in our keys are notorious for failing. Loose solder joints and the like. Strange that both would fail but ok. Make sure the batteries are installed correctly and are making good contact with holder. No red light tells me either battery not in right/good, not making connection or chip is bad. Some say reversing battery for a short period might jump start key functioning. I can't get my head around that logic. Do a search here for possible key fixes if so desired otherwise you can buy replacements on-line. Make sure a replacement comes with the code number for that key otherwise it is worthless. Next step is have someone who has proper equipment(usually a dealer) program the car to accept the new key. Keys aren't cheap but programming is more expensive. Good luck.
Just for clarification...reversing the battery in the key, not the car!!! And I'm not suggesting this tactic, anyway.
