No problems with the tow hook, it is very robust and secure. Towing with a tow strap/rope/cable/chain ect, does have it's dangers and the longer you have to tow, the more the risk. It requires two people with experience to do without incidence. Have towed many cars like that in my youth, and have seen many others do it, most incidents are caused by operator error, and there may be laws against it nowadays, best check with local Law Enforcement.

Would you trust towing 10 miles with one on flat road,or are these not for use like that?
Yeah as long as you use stretchy rope not too short, use experienced people to tow and remember the car being towed will have ZERO power assistance for steering or brakes
Agree with PT3. I watched a flat bed draw mine up on the bed with a fairly sharp incline, in my opinion. I was crapping my pants but no prob! Slow and steady with signals agreed on and briefed before rolling off.

I pull mine on and off my trailer w/ a winch using the factory tow hook location (with a Rennline tow hook) and have had no issues. Pretty good threads there into the bumper.
Flat towing is sketchy, but like lots of you all, I’ve done it in a pinch. Are we talking 10 miles of rural roads or through an urban/suburban area? Major pucker factor for both the tow vehicle driver and the towed. As noted, lacking power brakes and steering on the towed vehicle makes it interesting. SLOW speeds. Ditto on the issue of laws against it, but if you are rural, it may be no big deal...
I ordered a new/used towhook for my 2009 BMW 135i, and it didn’t fit.
But it did fit my Porsche 996.
Turns out it was from a 2016 BMW X3.
It is longer than the factory Porsche towhook, which is really nice.
So if you know someone with a new BMW, borrow their towhook.
So, it’s not a Porsche specific thread.
