One foot-pound
I changed my oil yesterday and the spin-on oil filter adapter unscrewed while removing my old oil filter. This happened once before (out of about 20) so I wasn't shocked. I must not have oiled the filter gasket well enough the last time because it was stuck to the adapter. My fault completely. I didn't remember the torque value so I went to the LNE website and saw that it was 18 ft-lbs. On the site they said to fill the filter with new oil. I had never done that with any car before but I trust LNE and it makes sense. I'll do that going forward from now on.
I separated the old filter from the adapter using two oil filter wrenches. I had a slightly larger one on hand that I bought by mistake many years ago. It worked great, though you need four hands to do the job,
I replaced the adapter, screwed on the new oil-filled filter, put the magnetic drain plug back in, and added the new oil.
While laying in bed I remembered that I never adjusted the torque wrench from 18 ft-lbs for the spin-on adapter to 19 ft-lbs for the magnetic drain plug. Oh no!
So today, not wanting my IMS to explode because I under-torqued the drain plug, I re-torqued it to the proper spec. Whew! I dodged a bullet there.

OMG now you’ve done it! Not only can you never become a certified installer, but if your engine fails at any time in the future it will be traced back to this error as the root cause. Of course your warranty is voided. My advice is sell the car immediately on CL and hope it hangs together long enough for the new owner to get home. If selling in this condition goes against your moral standards, you can always advertise it as a “pre-roller”.
