Default Tip not shifting in Auto Mode

Currently searching for my first P-car ... Looking at C4 / C4S (preferably, but wish I was in a position to swing a Turbo). Communicating with one owner who claims tip only works in manual mode. I searched for similar issues, but didn't find anything. Thoughts?

Yes, I do realize that it could mean plan on a rebuild / new tranny. If that is the only issue and I pick it up planning on that repair, I 'might' be ok. Will still want a PPI, but trying to do research first.

There was a Boxster on Wheeler Dealers that did that. It was fixed with a new filter and new fluid. YMMV

I was wondering if it could be something as simple, but want to go in to negotiate with the plan it will need new/rebuild.

A fluid and filter change won't be cheap but it might be cheap insurance. I paid a bit over $400 for that service along with a thorough inspection by a transmission shop. Rebuilding a Tiptronic It will cost $6000+.

It mite even be a simpler repair. I have seen many Tips that would not shift in Auto mode simply because the front tires were not the same size, or that one tire was new and one was worn out. If the tires are not of equal diameter the Tip thinks the car is in a turn and will not shift to keep from upsetting the suspension. I have seen this WAY more times than I have seen an actual Tip internal problem.
