Default sport suspension shocks used with stock springs

I've got a 99' 996 that needs new rear shocks.
Can I put sport shocks on OEM springs?

The shock I'm looking at is the Bilstien B4 sport.

Thanks in advance for your replys

The B4 shocks/struts are the OE “touring” units provided as stock suspension on the 996 carrera’s. The Bilstein “sport” (shorter/lower by about an inch) shock/struts are the B8’s, and they’re designed to be used with shorter, heavier/stiffer sport springs. I don’t think that the performance with stock springs would be satisfactory.

Mike,
I might be interested, but not sure of fitment.
Would that suspension bolt up to a '99' 996?

Let me know what you think.

Default I checked at Bilstein and the use same model as mine

Though I would advise you to do your own research,

I'm not sure what parts your interested in but all would fit. you'd be looking at a little more spring rate, as mine are for 150 lb heavier car, though the height is same,
The struts/shock same fitmet points though the internals for front struts were upgraded in 2002 to twin tube technology.
Sway bar is 19.6 mm versus 18.5mm .

I probably should replace all strut components as my suspension is going on twenty years of support.
I thnk there is a value for ride height, but I didn't check before I put car up on stands.

If I were to employ a luggage rack at some point then I would be in the neighborhood of your cars weight. So the heavier
sway bar and probably springs might not matter so much. Michigan roads are notoriously lousy as well.

So i am interested in your offer. In the mean time I will do some more checking, but would like to know
what the cost would be of your Targa suspension.

Thanks for getting back to me on this, A. Price

You can run B8's with standard springs but not the other way around. While researching this I found some swore the damping was the same between a B8 and a B6 and others claimed the B8 "sport" was stiffer.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my suspension questions..
I removed my dampers and found original part number on the barrel.
So I went with the standard set-up.

Does anyone think I would benifit from new springs as well.
Car is 19 years old at this point.

Thanks again for any replies,
