Default Ambient Lighting for a 996

My wife doesn't think much of my Mustangs, but she did like the ambient lighting option hey had.

I'm sure you have seen this in over cars. Foot well lighting , lighting on the cup holders and door pockets or handles etc....

Now when I bought my 06 GT, it did not come with ambient lighting. That was an option on the 2007 models. But I thought it was cool and wanted to retrofit it, which I did.

https://themustangsource.com/forums/f692/factory-ambient-lighting-468926/

And now I will install this same system into my wife's 996.

Because the ambient lighting system in the 2007 - 2009 Mustang is not an integrated system, then this will be easy. And parts are cheap now from a wrecker.

Just bought a center console with the control module and button, cup holder lights and less for $100.

this will be a how to for those that want to add some features to their interior.

You’ve already got some amber LED ambient lights in your 996. Is your plan to install more LEDs that match the factory lights?

I am no stranger to the forums, so I accept that insults are are part of it.

But DO NOT make comments on my wife!

We already changed out the lights from amber to blue.

these will be in addition. 1 for each footwell, 1 each for the rear passenger areas, centre console and door pockets.

We will use the 2002 foot well switch to make it look OEM.

Looking at the schematic for the foot well switch, it won't work with the control module and illuminate the button, but the rear wiper switch will work.

just ordered one off eBay. Will take the foot well button cover and use it on the rear wiper body. But the round clear window that indicates the device is active won't work, obviously. But I have an idea. Will have to wait for the wiper button to arrive. I the mean time I'll make the harness, which will be the same as with the Ford.

Sounds like an interesting project. Pics after installation would be good. I don't drive at night much anymore, but I do like the LED ambient lighting in my wife's Mini Cooper. Pretty cool that you can hit the button and cycle through all the different colors.

The 996 feels very dated when it comes to interior lighting. I read your Mustang thread -- looked thorough. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I like it dark at night. In fact, I love the old Saab "night panel' feature that darkens nearly everything in the cabin. But when you need light, it's nice to have! I think I would tackle a project like this keyed off a switch or the door.

If I lived in Edmondton, I'd be retrofitting a gasoline heater.

This is what you would need to do this:

lamp covers (need 4 or more depending on what you want to do) - 7S4Z 13E701 AE (black color)
jumper wire (need 2 - contains the LEDs) for the front - 8R3Z 14A411 B
Jumper wire for the back (contains the LEDs) - 8R3Z 14A411 C
module to control lights - 7S43 13E702 AA
clear ring for cup holder (contains the LEDs and harness) - 8R3Z 14A318 AA

4 pin female connector - wpt222 led lights can get pigtail connectors here - http://www.spautoparts.com/pigtails.htm

You will need to make your own harness to go from the console to the front footwells. I'll give instructions on this probably tonight. Wiring this up will be no different than in the 05 - 09 Mustang, except that I need where to get power from.

Stupid question, wouldn't it be better to key it off the current existing instrument panel dash lights - this way you can dim the lights to match the Instrument panel brightness?

I know nothing so forgive me.
