Default Winter maintenance completed!

Purchased a '00 996 last May for my wife with plans for it to be her daily driver except for winter months when salt is on the roads. The car had 86000 miles with an unknown history so the plan was to drive it until they start salting the roads and then take it apart for some maintenance. I was a little late getting started and put it up on jack stands Feb 17th. Today it came off of the jack stands just in time for Spring driving. It feels good to be done as I am one of those people that couldn't enjoy the car with nightmares of an impending IMS failure caused by all of the online horror stories. As it turns out the IMS was in good shape.

last weekend ready to go back in:

parts replaced:

Wow! You really jumped right in. Nice job. Btw, those are aftermarket mufflers if you weren't aware.

No, I had no idea the mufflers were aftermarket. Any idea what kind? They are stainless and had a few stress cracks that I had to tig weld up. This forum has been a great wealth of knowledge and I have learned a ton just reading through old posts. Thanks for chiming in.

Good eye! didn't realize it was in the background. It is 1962 109 that I built on a coil chassis.

Nice! That's a lot of work...Was that a single row bearing you had in there? Good call to go with "The Solution"... One less mode of CEF to worry about

Yup, single row bearing. I found out during this process though that the motor is not original to the car. It appears to be a 2001 motor from a tiptronic.

I did this too, had the car out a few times since completion and it runs sooo nice. Well worth the effort and congrats to doing it yourself!

I like the speed yellow. Def want to see more pictures. Seems like you know what you’re doing with a wrench. Nice job.

Great work! You've covered a fair few things off the list from the looks of it.

As for the mufflers, most have some sort of marking/plate on them with a brand.

Lots of them look very similar
