Default Cab hard top mounting question

Hey everyone,

I was just given a hard top by someone that used to own a 2000 mk1 and I plan to use it on my 2004 mk2. The top part numbers are the same (996-563-911-00-GRV), but someone told me on the Facebook 996 rennlisters page that the mounting posts and recievers may be different. Does anyone know if this is true before I call around? It'll need to be painted from silver to seal grey metallic, but I couldn't pass it up since it was free! They also gave me a windscreen that I'll probably sell to help pay for the paint work since I bought a new one a couple years ago.

Thanks!

Phil

Take pics of the top and the receiver. There are pointed ones and flat. You can buy new pins for the hard top if they don't match. The 2004 definitely has the new mounts but the top may have the old ones.

My 2004 has the old style bayonet mounts. Some late 2004s might have the screw type mounts. 2005 is when they made the change to screw type (some earlier cars were changed under a noise abatement TSB). That is also when Hardtops became optional equipment.
At one time a screw type kit was made available for a couple hundred $. Now a complete change is ~$1,000. If either the top or car has screw type hardware change the other to screw, they don’t rattle.
