Question P2 Windshield anti-lacerative coating??

Merry Christmas to all. Just opened up one gift and it was a Escort Passport 8500 detector. Now, here's my question.

In the book it referrences some Porsches have windshields with a soft anti-lacerative coating on the inside surface... They go on to say use of suction cups will permanently mar this coating.

Anybody familiar with this on US/CA, 03 Porsche Carrera Coupe's?????

Good question....I've been wondering the same thing.

My '03 has suction cup marks and I can't get them all the way off.

I just got some Griot's windshield wipes and am gonna try those, but I'll pissed if I can't get it off!

I just went to the Garage and checked mine. I've had my V1 mounted by suction cups for the last 4 months. Just took it off and wiped with windex, suction cup marks came off w/o a trace.

David you don't like the Griot's wipes?!

Damn it! I guess I'll give 'em a try and see. I was hoping they worked good since I like the whole wipe thing.

I have the 8500 installed. No problems. I ran the power cord under the dash board and to the center console. I wired it to the power window switches so it comes on when I turn the car on, and off when I shut the engine and open the door.

The unit also comes with a mute button on the lighter adapter. I pulled the button out of that harness and ran it to the dead buttons on my 01 C4 (if you have the cab then these buttons lower the rear windows) I drilled a hole throught the plastic button and apoxied the radar detector mute button into the drilled hole. This has become a LIFE SAVER... my 8500 goes off all the time, I just reach down and push the mute button and it's all good.

If anyone is interested I can post pictures of how this looks.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I like the Griots window wipes a lot. You need to wipe dry with a paper towel after using the wipe, and the window is crystal clear.

Anti-lacerative coating was from the 994 series. No current models have it. Jeff

I'd be interested in viewing your install. I just purchased a fancy 3 plug lighter socket and don't really like all that wire. Got it for my son to play his Game Cube in the back seat on our trip next week.

I'll post some pictures today... give me a couple of hours. I'll be happy to explain in detail what I did.

I've uploaded pictures of the 8500 installation. The only wire visible is from the detector down behind the instrument cluster. Then the wire is run down the center console and wired to the window switch button. The mute wire is then run to one of the dead buttons. You could also purchase, from Porsche, the actual window rocker switch to use as the mute, but I didn't wan't the window graphic on the switch so I just drilled out the dead switch and put the button there.

If you have any specific questions, please let me know. I'd be happy to help.

Cheers!
