Question Anyone caught doing over 100 mph?

I've occasionally gone over 3 digits on a public road. I stress occasionally, in case anyone wants to get on me for recklessness. Never been caught, and I wonder what would happen if I ever did get caught. I've heard rumours about the car being impounded, licenses revoked, but they are all rumors. Anyone here actually had it happen, or know for sure about someone that had it happen and the consequences thereof?

Very interesting question. I've always assumed the consequences would be akin to getting a DUI but I would be very interested to know myself if someone knows exactly what would happen.

I got pulled over on Rt. 17 in NJ. I was doing 110 in a 50, was giving a drunk driving test (passed I had one drink with dinner)... the whole time I was really nice to the cops, VERY IMPORTANT.

Two tickets, one speeding the other reckless driving.
$1500 for a local lawyer (very important get a local)
He got them to dismiss the reckless driving ticket and reduced the speed to 74 in a 55. 4 points on my license.
Total fines $500

Technically for doing double the speed limit you can get arrested and the car impounded. So be real nice

It was a $2000 night out.

How did you get 4points on your license if they dismissed the reckless driving charge and only gave you 74mph?

Should that technically be dropped to a regular speeding ticket and only given 1 point?

4 points, OUCH! I would assume it cost more that a $2000 night. Your insurance should have gone up also?

Buddy of mine just got nabbed for 135 in a 55 by Dulles Airport in DC. Got 6 days in the can and 1 yr suspended DL. OUCH! Plus a few grand in legal bills so he didn't have to go to jail for the required 30-60 days.

In NY State the point system is as follows:
1-10 mph over the speed limit: 3 points
11-20 mph over: 4 points
21-30 mph over: 6 points
31-40 mph over: 8 points

more than 40: 11 points (any 11 points on your license = suspension)

Reckless Driving: 5 points

So I could have gotten 16 points!!

Dude, that's brutal. Did he have any prior convictions? That seems harsh.

In '87 got pulled over by CHP. I was going 115, I was REALLY nice to the cop. He told me he could take me to jail, but was not, gave me a ticket for 105mph.
Had to go to court, pleaded guilty, paid $250 and got 2 points. I know it was cheap, but back then $250 was a lot of money for me.
I still drive at triple digit speeds (almost daily) but never got a ticket for 100+ since '87

riad......that is exactly what I thought. I asked how a first time offender say....selling drugs, vandalism, etc., can get off on probation, no jail time, yet he goes to the can for 60 days (lawyer got it reduced to 6) for speeding. Doesn't seem right.

I drive my C4 everyday and I always hit 100+ on certain parts of my commute but it's very short bursts. I recently got pulled over by a local cop, **** he practically pulled me over leaving my driveway for doing 68 in a 35... same scenario just as bad. I pleaded down to 45/35 just 3 points so now I have 7 points or so... have to be careful

These cars are incredible though you sometimes don't even realize how fast you're going.

Funny story when I was test driving the 911 I asked the dealer if he a Tiptronic so my wife could take it out for a spin (she doesn't drive standard) so she's tooling around about 45 mph and the dealer asks her to pull onto the interstate.... she starts to merge over an pick up speed, i'm in the back seat watching the digital speedometer hit 85 MPH and she had no clue. I asked her to look at her speed and she couldn't believe it.

Perhaps the judge, who probably cannot afford a Porsche, wants to show his displeasure by citing 'flagrant disregard for the safety of others' as his rationale for the jail time.

I am priviledged, 100mph is what I ussually set my cruise control on the highways around here when I just want to relax and listen to music, there is not too much traffic, people respect the left lane for the most part and radar detector does wonders, no lasers around yet

I'm so very glad I've never been nabbed for going 100+ even though I regularly hit it. My worst ticket has been 80 in a 65, which IMO is almost not worth getting pulled over for. I suppose I'll take that over a 100MPH+ ticket though.

Buddy of mine got picked up doin 107 on the drive down from SF to LA and the cops were total A**holes. He had to hire a $1000+ lawyer to plead down to 100 hours community service, a $500 fine, and 2 california points on his record (bad). It was either that or a suspended license for 1 year, so I guess he lucked out in a way.

Another close friend also got stopped for 105 in a 65 and for whatever reason the cop was nice and "only" wrote him for 90, so it was just a stiff fine.

Any California attorneys, judges, or cops know at what speed you are no longer eligible for traffic school?

BTW, be vigilent out there this holiday season! Word on the street is that cops nationwide are out to HEAVILY enforce traffic (speeding, DUI, etc...) starting today!

What a unique treatment of the left lane; for passing. I wonder if that will catch on in the US.
