I have a 2002 c2 coupe with about 51,000 miles (82,000 km) on it.

I'm curious, does anyone know of any other 2002 911 with more miles or even close to this many miles?

i have 53k on my '00 and adding 3k a month. i once saw a then 3-yr old '99 996 c2 sell on ebay with 95k miles in good cond. it went for $30k.

I've got 36k mi. on my '02 cab which was delivered in Oct. of '01. It's a daily driver for my wife during the week and on the weekends we must put on about 275 mi. going to East Hampton and back from Manhattan.

I have 50K miles on my 2001 C4. I put 100 miles a day round trip from Orange County NY to White Plains - fun.

Along these lines...I have a turbo that I enjoy immensely, but I can't bring myself to use it as a daily driver. If I got a used 911 (like an '01) and drove the hell out of it, are the maintenance costs astronomical? Are there any major problems after a certain mileage?

I have heard from some mechanics that a well maintained Porsche can do 300,000 ++ miles. Anyone know about that?

Are you not driving your turbo out of sentimental reasons? Otherwise, just drive it and enjoy the hell out of it... the wear on the car will certainly cost you less than another Porsche.

I was in somewhat of the same situation.... I was going to buy a Saab 93 Vector as a daily commuter car and leave my Porsche in the garage. But that seemed worse somehow. Damn, they are fun cars to drive as we all know and you don't want to beat on it, but otherwise you have a 100K car looking pretty - and just as a side note my car drives much better now than it ever did. They are like baseball gloves you have to break them in!

I'll tell you from my experience the biggest expense by far, was tires. I've gone through about 5 so far including a couple of rims. I also purchased a set of snow tires because I drive the car all year round. But if you live somewhere where the roads aren't bad then this isn't a problem.

i put 10k on my cab in the first 4 months i had it and have lightend up since
i drive it anytime i know it isn't going to be in an unsafe place overnight or when i don't think i will have to battle stop and go traffic! ( i am an er doc and work some late and overnights)

The draw to Porsche for me (over say ferrari) is that it is a "real car" ment to be driven....at least that is what my dealer told me!

Well in the 9 months that i've had my turbo i've put 10,000 miles on it. While this is not "excessive", I tend to keep my cars 3 years or less. My fear is that if I keep this pace up, the car will be worth very little in 3 years.

I mean, who wants to buy a turbo with 60K+ miles on it?? I know that personally, I would never buy a car with more than 25K - 30K miles on it.

P.S. right now my car has 18K miles.

Ryan - i understand where you're coming from, but I'm condsidering higher mileage 996's as my 'gateway 911' - its the easiest way for me to get into a 996 at the lowest cost. i think there may be people out there that would consider a 'higher' mileage turbo as their 'gateway turbo' (but i could be wrong!)

I did a similar thing when i got into 944 turbos - got a cheaper 86, drove it, learned about it - what i like and what i don't like - then made the move and spent the money on the EXACT car that i wanted - based on tangible knowledge. just a thought....but i'd say drive it. (i would rather say: "i wish i hadn't" than "i wish i had")

Hey Rob,

Cost of operation?... huh... Frankly, I have no clue. And maybe it's better this way... I of course went through several brake rotors, countless pads, some oil, quite a few sets of tires (Pirelli PZero Assimetrico, Corsa and SnowSport), etc. On the damage side, an exhaust collector, the clutch receptor and a connecting bar of the anti-roll bar had to be replaced out of warranty. All that at a more reasonable price than I thought. Besides that, I think I only had normal services costs.

My business-partner has a Maserati 3200 GT (the 'old' one with the boomerang rear-lights), and the running costs seem to be a bit higher than what I see for the Turbo: services and parts are more expensive, and the car has been less reliable, although it has half the mileage of my TT.
