water pump died a week after fuel pump died??
Fuel pump died last week after filled up the gas tank. Indy charged $1300 for fuel pump replacement (could have done it at home, but did not know of the problem, car was in a parking garage 15 miles from home. Had it towed to indy who diagnosed the fuel pump need to be replaced, and did not want to tow home)
Drove to work a week later and noticed severe coolant leak. Called the same indy who will charge $800 for labor (around 5 hours) plus $400 parts (water pump, thermostat, coolant). I will have the car tow home this time and diy the repair.
1. is $800 a reasonable cost to replace the wp/thermostat
2. water pump died right after the fuel pump? very strange coincident or not?

1. Its a 4 hour job so 800 sounds high - shop around. its not a complicated job.400 for parts sounds about right.
2. nowhere near an expert but I cant see how these two things are related other than age. Our 996 cars are getting old and WP are a known wear item. Dont hear much about fuel pump failures though.
Miles on car?

my Stepson 02 C2 p-car quit in San Fran. last week, used AAA free tow to the house in Sacto, diagnose the issue to fuel pump failure.... ordered from Pelican OEM replacement cost 385. easy replacement, pump is under the battery tray. no coincidence between fuel pump failure and water pump failure. 85K miles

Coincidence. The fuel pump is in the gas tank, near the front of the car. The water pump is in the back. Even if they did cause it or contribute, you’d be hard pressed to find them at fault. I once dropped my Boxster S off for a fuel pump repair and when a I went to pickup the car, there was a problem with the drivers side window when a I tried to get in the car. The repair shop didn’t want to even give me any discount on the repair even though it broke under their watch.

Further, the fuel pump is driven electrically while the water pump is driven mechanically.
"Just how vigorous was the test drive after the fuel pump install was completed," he asked, only mostly joking...
