I am certainly hoping someone that has tried this will chime in. I am willing to experiment, though. In my 12 mustang I had to reprogram my PCM and change the ABS module, but nothing else. Hoping this may be just as simple.

I believe the Bentley book has both wiring diagrams/pinouts

LOL, yeah, I got mine for $150 on amazon. Not cheap but a good discount from the list price.

Don't suppose yours is gen 2? I could use the pinouts for the gen 2 cluster.

The 99-00 cluster is not a can bus unit. 2001+ has a LIN can bus. The 2002+ cluster has different plugs with 32 pins not 26 so you have to swap plugs and I believe the pins are slightly different too.

The 2002+ cluster does not have analog input for inputs from the ABS and DME so many items will not work.

I have ave done a few different conversions and have all the wiring pin outs and spread sheets. The only reason I convert and change anything is to run a 7.8DME for a vario cam plus engine swap.

Items that hat have to be swapped together.

DME
ABS
HVAC
Cluster.

Ah. So without making a module to interpret signals, this won't work. More then just changing pins and pin outs.

Shame. I hate the displays in the gen 1s.

Oh well. I have plenty of other project ideas for this car. Thank-you Charles for your insight into this. I might give you a ring later anyways in case?

The DME - I assume this is the main computer module? Different acronyms for different car companies. This module changed as well between gen 1 and gen 2 then? Gen 1 module can't be reflashed?

Yes, thats the digital management for the engine. I think the easiest way to get the Gen 2 cluster will be to buy a gen 2 car. :-)

If you ever blow up your 3.4 and want to swap in a 3.6 or 3.8, the cluster swap becomes easier!

If you have detailed questions it’s best to email me.

Charles@dundonmotorsports.com

phone calls are ok just if the questions are detailed it’s best to get them in writing.
