Hello,

Recent 996 owner, looking to add a Bluetooth module to factory CDR23. I have done a lot of electrical work in vehicles over the years but as yet, no experience with 996.
Any suggestions or experiences where they have found a switched 12V source would be great. I will of course fuse protect it.

My recollection is that there is a factory installed pigtail electrical connector that Porsche put in for a phone. Some people have found it either just hanging around behind the center console horse shoe, or underneath the console (can't remember which it is). Or you might determine the 12V+ lead for the CDR23 and just tap into that.

The CDR23 source was default as the Bluetooth doo-hickey pulls milliamps only.

 

One other thing to note: most CDR23s were paired to the fiber optic Bose MOST system, though it seems a few actually have speaker level outs. Do you have the bose speakers and the frunk-mounted amplifier?

 

Sadly I have the Bose. I was going to try the iSimple Transit Blue HF but alos considering having Becker add an aux input for me. Its $100 and 3 days from Becker and super clean.
I initially considered Double Din aftermarket but due to Bose speakers that would mean i would probably need new speakers and if I am doing that I am doing an amp.

From what I have read, new speakers not drop in a require some modding of door/housing which defeats my desire have everything easily reversible.

 

I was in a similar situation of wanting to add BT and had considered the itransit but opted for the full solution of a Dension unit with a WMA1000.

I think the itransit would have done the job though.

If you can't find a power wire you can use a fuse tap from the fuse box. Not the best solution but it is completely reversible.

 

I have the CDR23 and did the following:, ref pic. Works great without replacing any of the OEM components. The phone pigtail can usually be found by removing the drivers side panel of center console. This pigtail has switched and constant positive along with the ground.
