yes you can. The front cover slides to the right when the cup holder is open.
with that said, i don’t think installing a new cover will fix your issue with the holder not staying latched.

Rennkit.com sells a face plate replacement.

I made a video showing how to take it apart and put it back together. If you watch it and pause at the right parts you should be able to evaluate what may be broken and causing it not to fully close.


edit: I'm not sure why it won't post but if you search porsche 996 cup holder removal on youtube you'll find it easy enough.

I’m going to do this soon. I wonder if there is any reason to remove negative battery connector first?

actually I replaced my cup holder today…much easier than I expected thanks to all the directions on this thread! The cup holder had to come out the back, facing towards the frunk. Half hour job.
