Reviving this old thread. I have cup holders in my ‘02 cab, the kind that slide out from the top of the horseshoe. My front cover is broken and fell off. Now the cup holder will not stay in and latched. I have a new front cover (carbon fiber and ugly) on order from eBay. Can I replace the front cover without removing the whole cup holder mechanism? TIA
with that said, i don’t think installing a new cover will fix your issue with the holder not staying latched.

edit: I'm not sure why it won't post but if you search porsche 996 cup holder removal on youtube you'll find it easy enough.

I’m going to do this soon. I wonder if there is any reason to remove negative battery connector first?
actually I replaced my cup holder today…much easier than I expected thanks to all the directions on this thread! The cup holder had to come out the back, facing towards the frunk. Half hour job.
