Default pricing for 2001 C4?

I just test drove a very nice '01 C4 at a Porsche dealer. It is red/black 23k miles , but rather spartan as far as options go. Porsche certified, so it has ther 100k mile warranty. Sticker price was in the mid-60s, but the salesman said he'd sell for $59k. Is this a good price?

Medici,
I'm shopping too and I think the price is high on this. I've been tracking, more or less scientifically, asking prices and high bids on ebay. Ebay, while not always reliable, does at least show what prices were rejected and what prices as least closed an auction successfully.

In the last few weeks, on a 2001 C2 with 19K, a non-Porsche dealer in Houston was asking $50,985.00, the high bid was $48,000.00 -- did not sell. One can assume that dealer would have taken $50,000.

A Porsche dealer was asking $52,988.00 for a 2001 C2 with 15K, not sold with a high bid of $49,850.00. You can assume this dealer would have taken $52,000. It was a Porsche dealer and I assume it was Certified, but can't say for sure.

A C4 should bring a premium, but not a $10K premium in my opinion. Maybe others can help put a value on the C4 over the C2. Porsche Certified is also nice, but I think you can get a similar certified car for about $53,000 to $55,000. I guess one question is how much would it cost you in time and energy to go shopping in Houston, Dallas or San Antonio to save $4,000. In truth, you may spend a couple of grand in time and travel expenses.

See if the dealer will go $57,000, or give you some options to justify the price.

Good luck!

Dain

59K sounds right to me from a porsche dealer. Its got low miles, later MY, warranty, C4 and sold by a dealer. All of those things increase the price. Ebay is always going to be cheaper but I think if you can knock a little more off 59K you got a decent deal.

i had an 01 c4-one with low options went for about 78k new. 59k sounds too high-remember-you can get a brand new leftover 03 for about 10k off msrp. i would say that 52-55k is more in line.

Thanks for the help, folks! I really liked the car, but wanted to hear some actual Porsche-owner opinions first. Dain, the car in question is actually in one of the cities you mentioned. For anyone interested, it is at the Porsche Center in San Antonio. Living in El Paso, the closest dealer to us is in Albuquerque, New Mexico and that one's about 260 miles away, so travelling is pretty much the only option for folks here. I happened to be in San Antonio over the weekend for my brother's college graduation and since the Porsche dealer was nearby, I decided to go take a look. I was tended to by a very helpful salesman (Gregory Pancake). I liked the car along with a black '02 C2 that was next to it. However the '02 C2 had a sticker price of $68k (!), which I thought was a little high. I am actually considering making an offer on this one as well, but the high sticker kind of makes me think my offer will be way too low. I am going to Scottsdale AZ this weekend, maybe I might find something there. If anyone knows of stuff in AZ, let me know.

There are significant differences between the 01 and 02 that would make it worth your while to find a way to get the black one instead. More HP, problems solved, etc.

Good luck and let me leave you with this thought: if you spend a little more than maybe you should have, it won't be a big deal. I have never regretted a single dollar I ever spent on a Porsche.

medici-the 02 for 68k is way too high, remember, you can get a new 03 for that price almost. the 911 market is way soft. the hole in the "pay extra, don't worry" argument is that when you resell the car, you are going to have to deal with the car's market value.

I just went through this whole exercise. A lot of the pricing depends on the factory options that are installed on the car. Before you make a purchase, make sure you know exactly which options/colors you want and shop with that criteria in mind. For comparative purposes, I was looking at an '01 C4 Cab (Lapis Blue/Grey) from Park Place Porsche. It was loaded and I had them down to $61K. For an additional $1,500, I think they would certify it. I ended up purchasing an '02 that had an original sticker price of $102K for $65K.

Now comes the hard part. It is being shipped and I should have it in about 2 weeks. A lot of sleepless nights....

Congrats on your purchase! So you got the '02 from Park Place also? While the '01 Guards was nice, it wasn't really in a color I truly desired. Also, as far as options, it didn't seem to have many. It also didn't have the 3 spoke steering wheel that I also wanted. I think I'm beginning to lean towards '02s now that I've noticed how soft the market is...

the difference between an 01 and and 02 is nite and day, if you can afford it go for an 02.

I actually was about to get the car at Park Place - the '01, but found the '02 at Inskip Porsche in Warwick, RI for slightly more. The car has 27K miles and has Full Leather, Supple, PCM, Comfort Pkg, Heated Seats, Advanced Technic Pkg, 18" Sport Classic Wheels (not looking forward to keeping these clean!) and Self dimming mirrors & rain sensor.

The wait is killing me!!!

Default Nice negotiating

I'm impressed...sounds like you saved yourself a lot of money and got a great car...did you get an extended warranty with the '02 as well?
