Question Will They Fit? (Winter rims & tires)

Looking at what appears to be a decent deal for some winter rims and tires for my 40AE. I have Potenzas on now, and they run pretty well after warmed up in 35-40 degree weather, but I want to drive on some lower temperature days to come, and maybe take a road trip over the holidays where weather will be less predictable.

Rim brand is not listed in the ad, and there are no center caps or lug nuts included. Tires are Nokian WRs.

Sizes are listed as follows:

235/40 R18
295/35 R18

Should fit, right?

You might want to check the offset and make sure they are for a narrowbody..

Good call. They look to be good, but checking is smart. Price is crazy low. Seller just sent a follow up to an earlier question. These are BBS rims. He’s checking offset. About an hour and a half from my house so need to be sure.

These look like the same 997 rims to me, and the offset looks to be out of spec for the 996. Thoughts?

Thanks! I believe these are Carrera III wheels for the wide-body 997. Found this thread, which fits the same rims to a 996 with spacers up front and back.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-my-996-a.html

Doubt I will even need to run any negative camber up front. Even with some scratches and rash, I think $500 is a steal for this winter set.

Buy them before I do! Was looking at them too on Craig's but haven't had time to get down there.

I’m here now. The rears are 11 inch rims, not 10. Too wide, right?

Found this while searching. Another guy was coming at 1 so I took the gamble based on the no rubbing claims in the post linked below, the price, and the likelihood I can sell them in less than a week if there are issues with fitting them on the 40:

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...els-996-a.html

Offset on the 11 inch rear is +51.

Generally speaking you should run narrower wheels and tires in the winter and the smallest rim you can get away with. I believe 7"/9" x 17 will go on a 996. I wouldn't run 11" wide wheels in the winter, especially on a narrow body..

I’ve seen people say that but I think I will be okay considering the difference between a wide body and a NB is only between 1.5 and 3 inches in the rear (996 and 997, respectively I think). I don’t plan on using it in snow, I have a Land Cruiser for that. I’m more concerned about tire temp and grip on lower temperature dry days. Anyone else think it’s a bad idea?

OEM center caps, spacers, if required, and mounting will come in at about $500. Puts me at a thousand all in. Unless I’m putting my health or the mechanical integrity of the car at risk, 1k all in is a good pilot price I think. Would love to hear others’ thoughts for or against.

The benefit of running narrow tires is to cut down to a solid surface rather than riding on top of the snow. If the goal is to have a car that can be driven in deep, soft snow, go narrow.

If the goal is to drive in cold but otherwise snow free or compact snow, go wide.

Those will fit a NB car I have a 11.5" rear with 51 offset and 305 width tires on mine. For your intended use they sound perfect. Not sure why you would need to spend any money bolt them on and transfer your center caps over and your set. Spacers will only push them out farther and not needed.

That is exactly the goal! Thank you. If I get caught somewhere in a snow storm I will take the necessary precautions.

Excellent! I appreciate you chiming in. I was thinking maybe about getting them balanced and tested for true round, but I guess I can start with an *** test first. Also though about 7mm spacers up front to get the track back to stock +50 (if I’m understanding offset correctly, but 7mm is only a 1/4 inch). My OE rims are polished, so the caps don’t match. I think Suncoast has the non-colored set for $150 or so. And, geez, the color on your car is majestic.

Hey, Balefire!

I just saw this post about your 997 Classic III winter setup you ran and sold and was wondering if you had to do anything special for the rear 18x11's?

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...now-tires.html

If you had issues or didn't like the setup on the 40AE, I would rather flip these in the 997 forum now before I drop money on center caps, 7mm spacers, nuts, wheel locks, etc. I tried to PM you but your box is full.

Any info on issues, setup (if any), or ride in winter conditions would be greatly appreciated!
