Default Battery Dead 996.1

The battery is dead on my 2000 C2 Cab. I did not find the terminal in the fusebox to charge and also my key fab only unlocks the door. From the threads I found you have to remove the wheel the liner to get to the emergency release cable. What is the simplest way to jump start the car without having it towed to the dealer?

Push start it if it is manual. Ignition on, get the the car rolling in 1st gear, dump the clutch.

If that's too much for you, buy a "jump starting box" at any auto parts store for $60 and start it that way.

If you can pop the engine lid, you can charge from there too. There is a terminal to the right of the powersteering fluid tank.

The terminal in the fuse box is bright red - hard to miss. If you can get to your owner's manual, all these procedures are well documented and with pictures. Good luck.

Huh? The frunk and engine lids are not electric in a 2000 C2. Just pull the lever to open them. It uses cables.

Step 1 - Put key in door and unlock.
Step 2 - Open door.
Step 3 - Lift up on lever to open front trunk as normal.
Step 4 - Jump, charge, or replace battery.
Step 5 - Smack self in head.

Edit: Correction. The front trunk won't open without electricity for some reason even though it is cable driven. The engine compartment lid doesn't require electricity to open. There are terminals for jumping there.

Or another way - fish the emergency release cable out from under the drivers side tail light, open the engine lid and use the jumper points in the engine bay. Beats the hell out of removing the wheel liner. And I agree with the above ^^

And, as I so often point out, once you get the trunk open and battery replaced, do yourself a huge favor and locate the trunk emergency release cable under the passenger side headlight and relocate it to just inside the front bumper tow hook plug.

What year did the 996 frunk and engine compartment releases become electric?

I believe it was 2001 MK1's and beyond. All 98/99/00 have cable operated release levers and there was no option for electric releases.

This is a picture of the fuse box and I do not see the terminal to charge. While I did not think it was an electric release on this model it would not release. I live at the top of a hill so pushing starting would be an issue if not successful (tried with AAA and was not). Searched for the last thread on this and the answers were ambiguous. Thank you to those who attempted to help. The snark from the others was expected.

Have you tried using a cigarette lighter jumper? Below pic is an example:
P.S. there are also units with power packs to give you enough juice to start the car:

Is the cable release lever locked? Like the battery is dead and the immobilizer has the car locked down? When you get the door unlocked/open are you putting the key in the ignition switch? The car needs to read the key there for the locks to operate. You might have someone gently push and then pull on the trunk lid while you operate the lever. Maybe also considered getting a trickle charger in the cigarrette lighter for awhile and see if you can operate the locks. Or, as I suggested, easier to get the engine lid open and use the jumper points in the engine bay.
