Default Engine Mount Replacement

Replaced both engine mounts today as both had failed as shown in the photo below. No issues with the actual replacement. Fairly straight forward process. However, once done, I stepped back to look and noticed my tail pipes were still uneven. Double checked and everything is torqued to the correct levels.

Any thoughts on what maybe causing this?

Tail pipe adjustment can be done at first joint behind tail pipe extensions. Check for bent stuff from someone dragging pipes up steep driveway. Scrapes underneath on chrome extensions indicate this problem.

the tips themselves may need to be adjusted
if they are not welded on, there should be a band clamp
try loosening the band clamp and adjusting the tip to the position to match the other side, then re-tighten the clamp

Wildbilly32 just beat me to it

Also make sure the little square head on the engine mount is inserted correctly in the engine mount cross-member square hole. Many have missed that step.

Thanks everyone. The clamps on the tailpipes looked really rusted. I think I will hit them with some penetrating oil a few times before attempting to loosen those up. I did double check and the engine mounts are sitting flush on the cross member, so I assume they are inserted correctly.

Mk1228, don't bother with the penetrating oil, break them off and get yourself a couple of new clamps off of ebay or Pelican has them too. Mine wouldn't loosen and broke immediately then we lined up the tips correctly with new band clamps, much better...

There are also three nuts that hold the muffler to the standoff/mount that goes to the engine - if you loosen these three nuts in conjunction with the other clamps (the clamp to the cat pipe as well) you get quite a bit of adjustment - plenty to get the pipes lined up perfectly. Good luck

The engine mounts have a square male piece that fits in the mount cradle if I recall correctly. On the pics above it looks like not only are the muffler tips crooked, the cats are as well - suggesting the engine itself is crooked. Which is easy to achieve if you have only one of two engine mount fittings properly seated down in the mount cradle. You can have the right mount torqued properly even if the square fitting isn't properly seated - check that right side mount with the engine supported. You should be able to adjust the mount so it drops down into the fitting & evens out the drivetrain.
