Default CAE Ultra shifter on Daily Driver?

Does anybody use a CAE shifter on their 996 Street car / Track car / Daily driver?

What is reliability with daily use?

On the fence on the numeric.

I just want a shifter that is not sloppy, if possibly, at all

Thanks for any input

David

I got a set of the Numeric shift cables about a month ago when they were on sale. I also, just ordered one of theirs shifters (re-furbished with full warranty) that was on sale. I'll be out of town 'til the end of the month so I won't get to install them until then. I currently have a B&M short shifter that works very well, so I'm interested to see the difference with the Numeric set up. I'll post on it when I install...** while the CAE looks like it works well, it's a little too funky for a street car (for my tastes... I want it to look stock - or at least classy, not "racer boi")...

Agree, the CAE look is a bit much for the street.

I installed a 997ssk from Suncoast last year, I want to try something else.

If you haven't already, check out Function First's "Shift Right Solution" (https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...ifter-kit.html) -- definitely takes the slop out.

You could also try the poor man's version:

I installed a numeric shifter with new oem cable ends in my c2. Hands down one of the best mods yet. I will say if you put it on the shortest throw and keep the stock length shifter, it can be a bit notchy to get into gear especially when cold. I upgraded to a taller shift *** and it was a world of difference. No excess slop and very precise shifts.

People keep recommending Ben’s shifter, but when I was looking recently, he wasn’t making them anymore. Has that changed?

I went with the Numeric. It is a work of art, such a waste to bury it under the console and boot...

I actually prefer that it's "buried"... I do want it to feel more like a "modern" shifter though (more precise and less effort). How does yours feel?

That's why I am trying to get the information ahead of time, more precise less effort, bad shoulder.
I have already spent money on 997ssk, and will be removing that.
Or maybe modify with bushings.

The numeric is very precise: smooth, precise, deliberate and mechanical. I’ve heard people describe it as being like the bolt on a bolt action rifle. That’s a pretty good description. It has several different positions that can adjust the throw, I have mine in the middle setting. Oh and I’m still using stock shift cables.

I think the cables make a big difference as well. I was actually going to install them on my B&M SSK (on 997 base - which is really good BTW) but a great deal on the Numeric shifter came up so I may as well go all the way!

I installed one on a friend's 987 DD. If I ever get back into a manual 911 for a daily driver, it's getting a CAE.

If you can't get Ben to modify your shifter to improved bushings, consider swapping your 997SSK to a GT3 shift

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfsF...ature=youtu.be

before that, I'd try a weighted shifter with your SSK, low risk
good return
I have both (GT3 and weighted shift) and it's just about perfect for the street

no affiliation, bit I'd try this

https://rennlist.com/forums/parts-ma...hift-****.html

skeptical at first, but it definitely improves the experience

you can upgrade cables too, somewhere in the future for me

From my research the numeric has 3 settings so you can change it anyway.

I was looking at one awhile back but the USD priced me out at the time. I bought a standard 997 shifter instead. So far so good and 10 fold improvement over the 996.
