Default SHIFT-RIGHT Solution: Ball Bearing Shifter Kit

After many months of designing and testing, I'm excited to announce that the SHIFT-RIGHT Solution - ball bearing shifter retrofit kit - is ready for market! This will entirely eliminate the excess play and flex from the stock shifter assembly.

The kit replaces the plastic/rubber bushings of the OEM shifter assembly with high load thrust ball bearings, as well as integrating a hard anodized and Teflon impregnated aluminum shifter yoke that also rides on ball bearings. It's compatible with all OEM shifters, and most aftermarket short shift kits. Your stock shifter and cradle are retained with this setup.

For full details, click here to check out the product page. The installation instructions pdf can be found at the bottom (the process is very similar to installing a short shift kit).

But for a limited time, I can include an OEM 996 cradle and standard throw shifter FREE OF CHARGE (no core charge). These would be shipped out in fully assembled and ready to install form. I only have 3 setups, and once they're gone, the SHIFT-RIGHT Solution will be sold in kit form only. If interested, please send me an email.

All 3 pre-assembled shifters are spoken for.

The SHIFT-RIGHT Solution is now only available in retrofit kit form. Check out the installation instructions for full details - it's a fairly straight forward process, similar to installing an aftermarket short shift kit.
(I also documented steps for 996/997 center console removal.)

The installation instructions PDF can be found at the bottom of the product page.

I want a job at function first. To have a job where you just sit around and think of ways to upgrade a 996. Would not even be like going to work.

Ok gang, I have used this thing for about a month. I'll be honest, if you expect it to be going from a 1955 chevy truck to an s2000, well, you're crazy. That said, it just makes the whole shifter feel that much more solid. There is a reduction in play in all directions and the slight feeling of flex in the whole unit is gone. Shifting doesn't require any more effort (or if so, just a tiny bit), and I've had no issues with the mod at all.

There really is no downside to this. I'd probably look for a standard 997 shifter and then add this mod to it and call shifting done.

Very cool product. Congratulations on bringing it to market. Now.... how about some upgraded cables to go with it? The OEM nylon cables are (IMHO) junk.

Very cool product as usual and nice review Quadcammer. We can always count on you for your unfiltered and blunt feedback.

As another side benefit, wouldn't this allow more consistent shifting throught various temperature ranges(IE cold winter)?

Excellent concept. On my previous 996 I installed a standard 997 console with the metal coupling and bushings from a now discontinued EvoMS kit. HUGE improvement in feel and precision over the stock shifter. Similar feel with a longer throw than a 2010 GT3 shifter that also utilizes metal bushings. The plastic bushings and coupling are junk that deform exactly as you would expect of plastic in this application.

Btw, I just installed a Function First shift **** into a 987S, very high quality product that is also a significant upgrade over the plastic POS shift ****.
