Default A new 911T

I read on another forum, probably the 991 forum, of rumors about a new 911T. Personally I think this is a brilliant idea! A little less horsepower than a base 911 maybe, but no options. Manual seats, no sat nav, no sound deadening, no sun roof, no carbon brakes, suspension that can't be changed with a button, a static exhaust, etc. Basically a less horsepower but less weight narrow body car that is "cheaper".

Other option, I was chatting about with my Cayman owning brother the other day, would be make a modern 912. Throw in the four banger from a base 718. Make it a light weight, low option car. I think that perhaps even with the less power the balance might be a little better as well. I think these would sell extremely well. People love the iconic 911 shape and heritage, but might not need a crap load of horsepower or electronic goodies and also don't want to spend a hundred grand. I suppose purists might scream bloody murder, as they do about all things new and different, but Porsche's main revenue, if I'm not mistaken, is already not from 911s but rather SUVs and those goofy four door things that have an *** only a mother could love (but the front looks pretty badass).

Any thoughts? Does anyone think they might do something along these lines? Maybe they can engineer a fatal flaw into them as well so in a few years prices will plummet and I can pick up a shinny new looking 911 with an engine made from blown glass and look cool!

Porsche sells every 911 it can build. Many of them it sells twice through CPO. They might sell 5% more 911s with a "stripper" model. (PSA - don't google "stripper model" at work).

But Porsche doesn't care.

It sells three Macans for every one 911.

You're right! But I think a lot of people would love a 911 that cost the same as a base cayman, even if it doesn't have the flat six sound. It being slightly more utilitarian with those "back seats". And while I love the Caymans, and will probably buy one at some point, I think the shape and allure of the 911 is just what people think of when they think "Porsche".

Hmm... or the 911 Poverty Edition. Can advertise it as being able to be purchased with food stamps!

I'm just picturing my mother saying "Well, I do love that ***."
