Default 996 - The next classic??

I get an email today from Porsche..........

They are making new accessories for the 996. I'm old enough to have seen and owned all the models from the 70's onwards that were dogged as duds in their day, now become overpriced classics, maybe the 996 is next.

Heck, a mint 2.0 Litre 991T Tan Sporto is now selling for quarter of a million dollars, who would have thought, you couldn't give them away years ago.......just saying

From Porsche Markeing today........

Porsche Classic Genuine Parts.
Accessory highlights for your 996.
The 996. A success model, that was as impressive then as it is now. A good reason to maintain its originality after all these years - made possible with the Porsche Classic genuine accessories.

I thought I read somewhere that anything older than 3 model generations (997,997.2,991 --> 996) made it a "classic" in the Porsche parts catalogs.

Anything's possible. They used to give away a used 914 with the purchase of a Porsche tee shirt, now the things are selling for $25k plus restored.

If you bury a turd in a zip lock, in a thousand years it will be priceless. Just wait and see.

With the intake situation under control I'll need a new job for all these plastic bags.

Thanks Rennlist!

If you bury it for 25 years it'll become a classic. Wait 50 years and it'll be an antique.

The wing looks nice but why is it available only for 1999 to 2001, i was pretty sure that the rear lid was the same on all 996 ?

I think it's after 20 years that they become "classic". The 996 just turned 20.

I did this to one of my original, beat up keys. It's a nice upgrade.

You never know. The Pontiac Aztek, known as the worst and ugliest American car ever made, is gaining momentum. They are supposedly going up in value.

Well f*ck, if I'm the only one sold by that article then I'm gonna make out like a bandit in 5 years.

We can thank Breaking Bad for it's undeserved new popularity.

One of the most significant things that drives a classic car's value up is rarity.
The 996 was made in much larger numbers than the earlier models, so I don't see it as following them to the highs they are reaching now.

But a classic it definitely is, and it will be an appreciating classic. It's not easy to find a car you can enjoy driving so much that won't devalue....

I think we all will be amazed 10 years from now.... but first a bunch more need to end up on the scrapheap, I agree to that!
