Default First tow from out in the boonies

Well, thank god for AAA plus membership.

While out on a long drive, just before returning homewards, we decided to check out this sweet little National Park off Rt 33.
Upon turning around, I reared into a small dirt bank and *plonk*. ****! Exited the car, coolant spraying out the back!

Shut it down, eventually found some signal and got a AAA tow back into LA within 20 minutes.

It's at the mechanic now to get it fixed. Those two little rubber hoses at the back bottom of the engine are fully exposed and could be considered design flaws..? The clip that fixes the hose to the engine broke.

Well, here's to more careful 3 point turns.

Design flaw??? Uh, i think that's going to be a tough sell...I'm pretty sure "operator error" is the proper diagnosis

Absolutely! Of course it's operator error.

Just wish those hoses weren't as exposed.

The 996 is flawed in zero capacity!

Sorry to hear you had a problem.

The 33 from Ojai to the top of the mountain is a great road . The 996 is the perfect car to drive that road .

I went to a PPI on a car where the owner had the car sent over to the shop I wanted to use on a flatbed.

Rolling the car off the flatbed, the clamp caught something (pavement...something on the flatbed) and popped the hose loose.

I did not see it happen, the car was already off the truck when I got there....I just saw the trail of coolant from where the flat bed was to where the car was parked and the coolant pissing out of the hose. Seems like a little more clearance could have helped.

Do you have a 996 skid plate?
Suncoast, I think around $125.
First thing I purchased for my car.

+1 for the skid plate: knocked off that hose (JUST after a coolant flush!), tore up two IMS Guardian plugs, etc.

Those hoses take a beating from muffler heat and general engine heat as well. We're talking about 15+ year old cars here. Rubber hoses don't last forever.

That's a good upgrade. On my list, thanks!

Lockwood Valley Rd from the 33 to I-5 Frazier Park is also a great road. Do it midweek and hardly any traffic on it.
