What's a really good sports car buy in the $100,000 to $150,000 range??

OP, I'd consider a Shelby GT350 R.

Really good is dependent on the person. I'd be happy with a 360 Modena, DB7, 458, F California, or a 599 GTB MMMMMMMMMM.
If I'm gonna spend $100k+, it is most definitely not going to be an American car. Nothing against them, the power ratios are exceptional, but I'd rather get something with more flare and better interior quality. You have a 996 which can be driven pretty much year round, so I'd spoil with a maintenance monster that'd be saved for sunny days.

This is a nice car and price for a Ferrari experience I think. It also gives you a cushion so ramen dinners are not necessary.

Good thing about the two cars above is that services have been done and you can drive it for a year or two and get out of them with minimal depreciation.

I'll agree a new Corvette would be the best bang for the buck. If you want to go the exotic route, consider a Ferrari 430. You can buy a great 430 in your price range. You're going to "stretch" your budget quite a bit to get into a 488 or 458 Spider (like double your max amount for a 488). 430 F1 "dinosaur technology"? .....I suggest you drive one.
Here's a 16,000 mile, fully serviced 430 for $122K (no affiliation):

The only condition I have is that it can't be another 911 of any kind. I love my '01 996 and I will never get rid of it and it is all the 911 I will ever need.
Right now I am thinking about a used Ferrari FF or a used Cali 30. My only problem with the used Cali 30 is that a $30,000 brand new Mustang GT has about the same horsepower. So I am leaning towards a used FF. But my problem with a used FF (that's in the $150,000 range) is that if the front transmission goes, I am out like crazy money. Then there's a used F430 spider, but that has the single clutch paddle shifters which is like dinosaur technology now. So I am back to square one.
Cash on hand. Ready to pull the trigger, just don't know what to get. I am leaning towards a used FF if I can get a CPO warranty on it without going way over my budget. I can probably stretch and get a used 488GTB, 458 Spider or F12, but I will probably have to eat lots and lots of ramen noodles for the next 2+ years if I do. LOL

#2 - $100 -150k is a lot of $ but it's nowhere near Ferrari FF money (even if that's what the price tag says...) - Ferrari's are insanely expensive to maintain - just a word of caution.

Not necessarily true. Depends on what model/year you're talking about. Modern Ferraris don't cost much more than modern Porsches to maintain.

I have spent time in my brothers C7 Z51 Vette. A fun car, good looking and great performer but junk compared to a Porsche. Fit and finish, controls, etc are all cheap. You may find yourself very disappointed with the level of quality.
