2001 Cab Headlight Issues
Greetings,
I am a brand new 996 owner, thanks to the Admins for this resource. I am a long time Mustang BOSS 302 owner, and I am glad to find a place like BOSS302.com to come to for answers. I hope one day I am knowledgeable enough to contribute in return.
Headlights. They won't come on. I get fogs and what I think are running lights, and hi-beams if I pull the turn signal back. But no high beams if I push the turn signal forward to lock them on. Apparently I am driving around with only fogs.
Please help me to run down this glitch. Thanks in advance!

HawkFan,
I would have done that, however I am sure there is a gremlin. I have BOTH hi-beams lighting up when I pull the turn signal...but nothing lights up when I push it forward...and zero lo-beams at all.
I suppose both lo-beams are burned out, but what are the odds of that? AND the hi-beam problem?

Trying to run the logic, don't laugh at me if this sounds stupid enough.
Will it be a wrong wiring when previous owner/mechanic unplug the headlight? There's no daytime running mechanism with original 996, so sounds to me they run the headlight wires to the fog light. Then when you trigger high beam, your headlight flashes, instead of the high beam bulbs.
Try follow the wires and see if they messed around with them. I'd also start to check if any blown bulbs which may mislead your diagnosis.
Good luck.

Failure of the headlight switch is quite common for 996 cars. That's my guess.

You might even check the pins connectors of each head light connections. They have a tendency to bend over when putting the headlamp connection back in place. My guess is the DRL has been wired up wrong. Good luck.
