Got my track shoes on...
Heading to my first track weekend w/ the 996 at PMP. I sold my track-only Lotus earlier this year before buying the 996 and I'm excited to get back out again. Wanted to share a pic of the car w/ my track wheels on running a new set of RE-71Rs, Hawk HP Plus pads and new rotors. Looking forward to seeing how the car does on the track.

Yes for sure, I ran RE-71r's on my Lotus and they handled about as well as my Hoosier R6's (slicks), at least on that car. Since I no longer have a trailer (don't miss that!) I'll be driving to and from the track so need something that will get me there and back.
I went with 235 front and 285 rear. I have heard 245's will clear on the front too but didn't want to risk it. The 235's seem pretty close to the spring perch.
The wheels I picked up here on Rennlist, I wasn't sure about the red stripe but the price was right. As it turns out I love how it looks.

the hot ticket for autox is the 255/35/18 re71r fronts, which is the max that will fit on the 8" stock front wheel. Not ideal for track setup.
You can run the matching 5-spoke from a boxster rear and get a better footprint from the 9" wheel, which barely fits up front- but they're somewhat rare.
a 245 width pirelli DH will fit up front too, if you need more front end grip

Had a great weekend but cut a little short. I ran over three cones and one prairie dog. Yesterday in the second session I boiled my brake fluid towards the end of the session...happened just after this video below. I guess the Pentosin super dot 4 is not enough. Fortunately the pedal got squishy slowly and I was able to pump to a stop in a runoff area with no issues. After sitting for awhile it came back and I contemplated going back out (my instructor wanted me to) but I decided to call it a day since I had to make a 2.5 hour drive home. I'll be back out again in a couple weeks with some Castrol SRF.

How did you like the Hawks? I need something with a little more bite for Autocross but not too noisy since car is still driven three to four times to work each week.

I was really impressed with them. There was no point where I was wanting for more brake. Until the fluid boiled that is.
They do squeal like a schoolgirl on the street however. It doesn't bother me but I don't daily the car.

I used the HP+ on the track a while back; in my opinion they are a bit weak for track use; that may be why you boiled your fluid. With a more aggressive pad (I really liked the HT10) you may not boil the fluid

I use the HTC-70 for track use and they are amazing. Once properly bedded, they don't squeal too horribly on the street either.
