Default Turbo S

Hello all,

I am wondering if the 1997 911 Turbo had the S as an option, or if it was a somewhat limited car like the Z06. Is there a production number for the amount of S cars out there.

Thanks

I believe there were a small number of turbo S cars built in both 1997 and 1998. I's be guessing at about 200 cars total. Viken?

I understand that 189 Turbo S's where produced 1997 and 1998 for the NA market.
Anyone know how many for the ROW ?

MrVierra,
One more point to add...a number of 1996 and 1997 TT's have had Turbo S parts added aftermarket...i.e. Front Spoiler, Turbo S wing, Side Vents etc...
Be careful when investigating the vehicle to ensure you are getting a true Turbo S.
Things to look out for are:
Turbo S Wing
Side Vents
Front Spoiler
Additional Oil Cooler
Yellow calipers
Turbo S wheel centers
Carbon Fiber interior options with Turbo S script
Carbon Fiber Strut Tower brace
Extensive leather interior covering (vents, switches etc...)
Turbo S script on the rear seat / parcel shelf
Turbo S script on the trunk pocket
Turbo S ECU option, addtnl 20 HP
Twin exhaust tips

Hope this helps, if you need pictures of these features let me know.

Regards

I was asking all of this because I found a clean car with low miles that I believe has the S option package. I was wondering if it was a package available at time of purchase, or an entirely different car.

Here is a snip from the listing:

COMPLETE TURBO S UPGRADE PACKAGE FROM FACTORY, UPGRADE TURBO CHROME RIMS FROM FACTORY, CARBON FIBER THROUGHOUT, BRAND NEW TIRES, EXTENDED WARRANTY TILL 36,000

I was also wondering if the factory chrome rims were hollow spoke?

Thanks!
Anthony

Congratulations James on your recent acquisition.

In 1997 there were 176 turbo S models according to and available through PCNA. PCNA has told me that they did not import any MY1998 turbo S models. Presumably then, if the 6-13 (Depending on the source) additional turbo S versions are in NA they are gray market imports. I believe that in MY1998 33 turbo S models were imported to the UK. Don't know about the ROW.

According to the parts book there is an "M" option number for the 1997 turbo S but I have never seen a turbo S with this "M" option number. That number and description:
"M092 SPECIAL MODEL TURBO S MOD 97"
James - Does your S have this "M" number?
Perhaps this may apply to modified cars like yours Anthony. Then again, maybe not.

I believe the only way to make absolutely positive that a turbo S is - is to have PCNA run the VIN. This may also apply to any turbo S Upgrade Package.

Anthony,

I would caution you on that 993TT (I spoke to the party trying to sell that vehicle last week) as it is not a "S" in fact the "S" options were added as a result of of an accident. When asked if the car had any damage history he replied "well if you consider my wife backing into it in the driveway" Well I dont consider 12,000.00 in damage to be minor. Plus he failed to mention over the phone when we set the appointment to view that the car has a SALVAGE history per AutoCheck. And didn't want me to come to his home either..... Very shady if you ask me........ Now if any one knows someone trying to unload a 97 993TT with no stories I'd be happy to be pointed in their direction......good luck with your search Anthony........

I think it means factory *brilliant* paint finish which is often mistaken for chrome.

what a bastard if one, it has a salvaged title, then it was paid out either before him or he is deliberately lying about the damage. Also the fact that 17k or whatever in damage is minor is balogna. I would have told him that he was committing fraud and is opening himself up to a lawsuit by whomever buys it and finds out later that he is a lier. Rediculous!

Viken - Thank You for the information...now I need to find out where I get my "Secret Decoder Ring" from

I might have mis-read the Engine code, as the digits are hard to read under the hood, in the dark...late at night.

Eventually, I have to refinish a set of Turbo S wheels -- is there a paint code or some way to define the polish or process to reproduce the same finish?
