Default Need help changing turbos

I have a 1996 993tt. I bought a couple of extra turbos and had them rebuilt with the k24 impeller. I would like to swap out the turbos. Is this a project I can take on? I have limited mechanical skills. Any how to instruction's would be helpful. Or should I leave it to the pros? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you

Serveral years ago, Basal Skull posted a step by step tutorial from his own turbo swap complete with pictures and tips/tricks. I would suggest searching for the post and reviewing it to see what's involved and whether you are up for it. (Sorry, I'm currently on mobile or would find it and post the link for you). I used it as a guide in addition to the shop manuals when I did mine. The write up largely follows the factory procedures from the shop manuals which includes removing a lot of components from the rear of the car (bumper cover, mufflers, cats, bumper supports, etc.). It was very well written and included many pictures. It should give you a very good idea of what's involved. Good Luck!

i see your answer in your question.
You can certainly take the project on, but if you do, you will most likely regret it.
DIYs are great fun if you have the time / knowledge / tools.

Its not a hard job from a technical perspective, but when you start snapping the studs, then you'll need perseverance and some good drilling/tapping tools.

You can follow Kevin's "sticky" on turbo removal, to see what's involved. Really easy, just a bit of work. You need the right tools, some patience, and most importantly, a large foul vocabulary, if you plan on doing your own work.

And here's the link to the DIY from Basal Skull in 2007 (wow, can't believe it was that long ago!)...
