2WD for one (track) day only
I know the 993tt can be made RWD only by locking the propshaft link in forward most position (as done on a dyno), but is it safe to run it on track like this, just to sample it before ripping all the bits out?

I recall rennlister Tim W....? saying in a post he had his front drive disconnected for a long time.
You won't get the weight savings, and don't know how much of the 2wd feel is due to the weight loss and loss of the parts that will still would be free running. Can't really think of a reason it would be bad as all those pieces move when in 4wd anyways and suspect some of the cars don't have good viscous couplers. Can't recall if the shaft link can be removed completely or tightened so it doesn't move once in the forward position. I posted a pic a while back of the link, let me see if I can find it.

looks like you could probably take the loose clamp off and probably still tighten the other clamp on the shaft so it doesn't move in the disconnected position? wouldn't know for sure unless you try it.

I do not think I would want the wheels pushing back on the differential on the track, at the very least it would be like lightly braking on the front tires. Not sure how significant that would be on front end traction (and hence steering).

If you want to try a fairly easily reversible 2WD conversion get yourself 2 each of the following:
993 341 155 01 - ABS ring
900 082 123 09 - basically a big bolt
999 084 634 09 - locking nuts
This allows you to remove the front drive shafts removing their weight and inertia from the car. The drive shafts can later be reinstalled if you want to go back to AWD.
They're numbers 9, 10 and 8 in this diagram

Great pic, which track were you at? You should get yourself up to Oulton for the porsche RS day in March and get some drifting like that done around the outside of all the RS kettles

Silverstone. I would love to show some of the 'wet' drivers a thing or two about the old skool pork
