993 turbo leather
Hey there. Currently I'm shopping for a 993 turbo (we'll see what the better 2/3 says). I've noticed that some leather looks like my 993 which is sort of plain while others are "supple".
Is this an indicator for year make or was that an option.
Thanks.

Nota I have supple in my 'new" 97 TT and its ok
I prefer the way the leather is taut in sports seats
I appears to me the supple look more worn. But
I love the way the seats (regular comfort) feel though.

DI have to disagree with Jeff on this one. IMHO the sport seats are not that much sportier than the regular seats. I DO think they look cooler with the fiberglass back, but they really don't seem to have much of an improvement in lateral support that makes it worth the premium.
My Audi S4 seats are "sportier" fer goodness sakes.

Funny, I have sport seats and I would have preferred comfort seats. They look cool but I am 6'4" and these seats have a slightly more confining shape which makes them slightly less comfortable for me. [Maybe that's why the regular one are "comfort" :-)]
Having said that, on the three day drive from Denver home, the seat bolsters in the shoulder area "gave" a bit more 30-40 minutes into the drive and they seemed fine during the rest of the day. It's just that first few minutes that they seem to squeeze me a bit.
Nevertheless, the car was first used in the frost belt and has heated seats which is something I appreciate early in the morning.....;-)

Interesting mix of responses. I'll concur with ScottMellor that my S4 seats are fairly sporty but I haven't had the honor of spending time in a supple leather 993 TT.

I will split the middle on this one. We have the supple leather in our 993TT and they are the most comfortable car seats I have sat in. The leather feels very nice and the cushioning is very good. I often tell people that our 993TT is very cushy because of this. I have the older Porsche sports seats in my 87 Carrera, which we use for DEs. Those seat are actually quite comfortable as well but also really do a nice job holding you in at the track. Most people who have significant seat time in both the older and newer 911 sports seats say that starting in the 90s the sports seats became more cosmetic and less useful for high speed cornering.
So, if you plan to use to car mostly for the street, supple leather is great. If you plan to do ocassional DEs and mostly street, the sports seats may be what you want (they do look cool) assuming you are not 6'4" or bigger. If you plan to do lots of track work, then you will want to find a another solution.
One thing I can say for sure, is supple leather is a challenge at the track - you do slide around quite a bit.
